Picked up this beauty recently. As far as I can tell, the cover image doesn't appear on any US edition Archie comic.

Looking at the expression on his face, do you think 'Reggie' might be short for 'Registered Sex Offender'? Just a thought...

never seen that color/shade of pink either , looks much different.......

I think I've found another aviation photo swipe. I had to mirror reflect the first photo, but what do you think? It's pretty close. The second photo shows the top of the boarding ladder, which the artist has also got right.

(The aircraft is a Avro Cana CF-100 Canuck - and flying above it is a well-rendered Saab J-29 Tunaan.)

Does this issue contain the now banned and never-to-be-reprinted classic "Biggles Flies Undone"?

And is there nothing that multi-talented character actor could not do?

Notice the initials 'AD' on his shirt pocket. It couldn't be. Could it....? hm

Nope - do I have to keep reminding you which Australian I am?

John Dixon was another Australian. As well as the Crimson Comet, he also developed an aviation hero called Tim Valour. Here are a couple I picked up recently.

1733158547_TimValour11.jpg.7f32ed112de74db13d593ab16df433f8.jpg135860170_TimValour13.jpg.2e63dee6c9c65c0857be8bc668f90f62.jpg

The return of Adolph Hitler story begins with our hero being tasked by the Argentine government (why?) to investigate some rumours of mysterious aircraft sighted off the coast. He crashes his propeller-driven aircraft on arrival in Argentina after a three hour flight (from where?) when an undercarriage leg won't lower (the only possible explanation for which, apparently, is that it was sabotaged when he left his base). The Argentines provide him with a brand-new supersonic jet fighter to go out and see what he can find (If they have more advanced planes why do they need Timbo?). Valour speaks to a fisherman (who unaccountably has access to an Air Force base) who tells him that he heard German voices near an island offshore. TV heads out and gets ambushed by jet fighters bearing black crosses (dun dun dun) and shot down. He bales out and tries to work his way into a mysterious base hidden in the jungle...

So... Adolph appears for all of six panels (five, if you demand he be alive for it to count) and seems to lack an effective security detail. That's probably all for the best, really.

Just a second while I proofread this puppy . . .

Hmmm. Okay. All seems to be in order.

Lovely pages, and when Dixon is on song his use of spot blacks is very good. My favourite piece of dialogue has to be Nina's declaration "Ja! None odder than Adolf Hitler" Boy, is she the mistress of understatement.

Next month's "Revenge of the Raven" story has nothing to do with Paul Wheelahan's eponymous comic does it? The illustration says "no".

I very much doubt it, but I don't have a #12, so I can't say for sure. (shrug) Didn't Wheelahan's character come along in the late 50s? There was also a Raven in the Frank Johnson comics of the WW2 years, but I think that's different again.

I've got to say, the art here is great! The Lady in Red is adorable ? Superb, realistic, enchanting.

And this puts me in mind of Wattoo Wattoo.

And look, I never mentioned sanitary towels once!

Oh, doh!

Thanks guys - glad you're finding something worth reading here.

Here's the other Silver Flash. This series has some wonderful cover images:

The scratchy interior art is growing on me, even though the quality seems to vary from panel to panel. Look at this page for example. The face in the top right panel is quite nicely drawn and conveys suitable gravitas. The panel below looks like my dog drew it. Overall though, I'm kinda getting into it.

Until next time - tampon!

(Hmm, not quite 'excelsior', is it?)

Silver Star? Hmmm. Let me check.

Nope, definitely Silver Flash. And you are correct about how uneven the art is. It's as if a deadline loomed, inspiration flagged, it is just so odd.

I've got one of these around somewhere so BRB.

Duffman. Proofreading since 2006.
