TGIF, Gentlepeople!  Today is pretty light for arrivals but still pretty fun.  A very minty Dell western showed itself to me and I grabbed just because it's so nice!  And then, a lusty blonde appeared in the form of Peggy Gaddis' Temptation, a Venus book classic with a George Gross cover.  Enjoy!

The Martian Chronicles was a must for me as soon as I started collecting pb's. I first read it about 25 years ago after hearing some segments of it in the old radio show Dimension X.

I didn't know anything about the Anderson book and bought it on a whim, but I liked it a lot.

A couple Maguire covers.

This is the 3rd printing and 2nd different cover of Female Convict.  Randall Dowling posted a nice first printing a few days ago.

I like how Maguire's initials look like they were scrawled on the wall by an inmate.

Here's Maguire's first paperback cover (with a Wertham intro.).

This is a sweet pair of books!  I still need Tomboy.  (thumbsu

I absolutely love the the book, but my oldest Martian Chronicles PB might be from the 70's, I never did track down an early copy of the book.

The Magazines that first published stories that BECAME the Martian Chronicles?  I've tracked down most (not all) of those at this point.  The Collier's has the first publication of "There Will Come Soft Rains", which is my favorite story from the Martian Chronicles... and the EC adaptation by Wally Wood is my favorite EC story.

There Will Come Soft Rains is a real stand out. I heard the radio version first, then read it in the book. I haven't read the Wood version but recently started collecting EC's and the WF #17 is high on my want list because of this story.

I didn't know it was first published in Collier's. Thanks for the info and nice looking copy.

Great stuff friends... here's a few to keep it rolling

A couple of later Pops. Like the Avon T's, back when, nobody was collecting these, but they're 30 years older now. If they're sharp, especially mystery/thrillers with cool covers :takeit:

I've always enjoyed Voltaire!  He was a fierce critic of the church and supposedly, on his death bed, when asked by a priest if he would renounce Satan before he died, Voltaire replied "This is no time to be making enemies."

Cleaning out my garage and found a couple boxes of old books and paperbacks that I totally forgot about. Mostly stuff that wasn't worth enough to ship when I sold my old collection. Funny, this long box looks more interesting many years later! Theres actually a couple decent books in there!

This 1941 hardcover collection from World Publishing that was in there is very interesting. Aside from some cool stories, the astute collector will recognize that skull :)

I would have happily gone $25 for my copy... but that's still a lot less than what you're likely to find it for.

If I ever come across another copy in  that price range I'll let you have it at my cost if you want it.  It's one of those books that you really do have a chance of stumbling across cheap at some point.

@Surfing Alien : I promised you first crack at this if I found another copy in the wild, which I did today.  You can have my old copy (the one with the color loss at the top of the cover) for the $16 I spent on the new copy today and I'll even cover shipping if it's in the US.

I bought this one for the cover but really enjoyed it. An autobio of a year the author spent in a traveling carnival as a successful fire eater, sword (and neon tube) swallower, mentalist and failed human pincushion.

Some crazy stories, fascinating people and insights into that way of life.

Sweet early Harry Schaare cover. He could do it all, realist like this and stylized like those Pops I posted earlier
