Apparently the book was based on an earlier series of stories done for the pulps under a pseudonym, but completely redone. I've only got the one:

My understanding is that after Fearn saw the potential of the character he wrote the novel shown above based on his earlier yarns but with new origin etc. He went on to write many novels in the series. Amazingly most of them were published in the 'Star Weekly' insert to the Toronto newspaper so the housewives of rural Canada were enjoying some unabashed SF. This is the last of the 3 Harlequins.

Nabbed a copy of the original 1950 Hillman paperback of Jack Vance's first book, The Dying Earth.

Favorite line: "I am Chun the Unavoidable."

Great books gents. (thumbs u Looks like I will have to work on obtaining some books by Vance.

Robots also were a staple of pulps and PB's. Score a double for Ed Valigursky as he drew the covers for both "The 13th Immortal" and Amazing Stories (February of 56).

this image I found online is the art for Ace D-283 Simak's 'City' (1958) and again shows Valigursky's awesome ability to render remarkable robots.
