Does he still need to pay a fee to Heritage since it was up for auction?  I'm thinking he still does. I also don't understand, if true, why the need to buy the book back because the book would have sold for a nice price still if going with the underbidder bid.  I would've been happy with that price especially in what is happening in the world right now.

I’m a simple man. I paid attention in nursery school (be nice to others, treat others the way you would be treated, etc) and my schooling went downhill, unfortunately, after that. 
 

therefore, what the heck are you talking about? John bought the book? Why? Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding your post. That very well could be true.
