I know a lot of people who are plain spoken and straightforward. People...easily offended people...get offended by their plainspokenness. 

Have you considered that there's more to the story...a lot more...that you don't know, and haven't considered...?

Or...have you considered that what you see as "pompous condescension"...isn't?

 

If someone is called pompous and condescending, repeatedly, by many different people, than that is what is decided pompous and condescending

Don’t fall into a crowd.  Be your own person and come to your own conclusion.  If it happens to fall in line with the others so be it. But take the time and do it right.
