What am I missing?

I followed the auction below because I thought it would be nice to have an Iron Man cover:

I was really surprised to see the price skyrocketing at the end and the page closing well above $4,000.

 

Is there something I'm missing?

I went to 4k on it. It's a great cover from one of the long time ironman artists. But donnley got it I think.

no, matthias, i don't think you are missing anything. no disrespect to the winner of the auction, but that is a lot of money to pay for a big fat image of Vibro (who???)..

but its a luke cover from a good period, in great shape from his main book. Honestly, i think 80s is undervalued when compared to 70s and silverage. The people who read/loved those books are coming into money now and have a slate of movies to rekindle their love. I think core covers are gonna go nuts. Look at new mutants covers, id pay 4500 for ANY cover from the original series, maybe 5k. Id never see one.
