It was quite refreshing to have a Thor film with a lot of humour in it compared to the very sombre tone of the first two, especially given that the -script dealt with interpreting the darkest tale in Norse mythology, and that the decision worked so well overall.

Highly impressed, and looking forward to many repeat viewings on Blu-ray.

'Thor: Ragnarok' Becomes Fourth Superhero Movie To Pass $300 Million At Box Office This Year

Quote

Thor: Ragnarok has officially crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office.

While this is an impressive feat, Thor Ragnarok is actually the fourth superhero movie to achieve it just this year. Marvel's own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed the same milestone earlier this year, as did DC Films' Wonder Woman, which is all to say that it's been a pretty good year for superhero movies.

Thor: Ragnarok is the sixth-highest grossing film of the year, trailing behind Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, the three previously listed superhero films, and the horror hit It.

Thor: Ragnarok isn't just a hit at home. The film has earned over $800 million worldwide, making it the seventh-highest grossing movie of the year worldwide.

Superhero movies setting records again.

Is this the biggest comedy of the year?

I feel you.  It was certainly funny and did entertain but the jokes were just too much.  While humour is certainly a tried and true device for breaking tension a little in intense movies , non-stop comedy prevents any real tension from ever building up.  Cate Blanchette was great as Hela but when the heroes are constantly joking with each other , and her, the villain is no real threat to anybody.  I give Homecoming some slack because Spider-Man is a jokey character , but even he took the Vulture seriously , even when Iron Man didn't seem to.  The best scene in that film IMO was the car scene on the way to the prom.  There was legitimate tension in that scene.  Even the right outside with Shocker was fairly intense with one little comedic release when Peter saw all the old gum under the seats and took the time to say "gross!".
