RIDDICK 4??!

:whatthe:

These movies have been my guilty pleasures. Sure Riddick was just a rehash of Pitch Black but I like creature features and I have to say I was entertained.

Martin Scorsese commented on MCU films during a 'The Irishman' interview.

Leading to people attacking him for being jealous, and some interesting exchanges.

While I don't agree, I also can't say that he's entirely incorrect...

MCU films are typically great entertainment. Great escapism. There aren't many messages that can be taken away from them, though.

I think he's looking at it from an old-school perspective - that movies should be meaningful. Some of the earlier Marvel movies had some meaningful stories (despite unrealistic actions). Iron Man trying to make up for the horrors that he was ignorant of. Thor being humbled. Captain America always trying to do the "right" thing, etc. As the MCU got bigger in scale, and more unrealistic cosmic stories were told, messages just got harder to come by. It's basically all been "work as a team". It all became about compelling characters going through unrealistic trials. That just comes with the territory.
