CW President Says The Hope Is For VIXEN To Receive Live-Action Spin-Off

What a difference a season makes. During the Summer TCA press tour, CW President Mark Pedowitz stated that there wouldn't be any more DC Comics adaptations for quite a while after DC's Legends of Tomorrow. However, during the Winter TCA press tour, Pedowitz appears to have changed his stance, acknowledging that the hope is for Megalyn Echikunwoke's Vixen to eventually recieve her own live-action show. Peodwitz stated, "Hopefully, that character could actually spin itself out, if not, maybe join as one of the Legends [of Tomorrow]."

CW’s ‘Vixen’ Season 2 Confirms October Premiere Date Read More: CW's 'Vixen' Season 2 Confirms October Premiere Date | http://screencrush.com/vixen-season-2-premiere-confirmed/?trackback=tsmclip

Per TVInsider, the animated Arrow-verse series will return for Season 2 on October 13, same as Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, and one day prior to the date reported over Twitter. Subsequent episodes will debut on Fridays, giving CW DC fans new episodes on each day of the week, along with Supergirl, Flash, Arrow and Legends.

Not only that, but the six-episode Season 2 will pit Megalyn E.K.’s Mari McCabe against “a mysterious foe who has his own magical totem.” Says EP Marc Guggenheim of the new additions:

"In keeping with Mari’s journey of acknowledging that there’s a bigger world out there, we wanted to dramatize that by doubling down on the number of characters we reveal in animated form. It’s something that’s really cool and it’s not just a gimmick. It plays directly into Mari’s character journey."

'Vixen' Animated Series To Premiere As Movie On The CW

Quote

The CW Seed series Vixen is officially joining its Arrowverse family on television screens - for one night only.

A two-hour compilation of the animated series - dubbed Vixen: The Movie - is set to air on The CW this Wednesday, August 30th. The broadcast will consist of all twelve episodes of the animated series, and the commercial breaks will include vignettes of information about the coming Arrowverse season.

While this is the first time the series will be seen on television, its effects have been felt throughout the Arrowverse. Mari made her live-action debut in the Arrow season four episode 'Taken', where she helped Oliver, Laurel, and the rest of Team Arrow rescue Oliver's son. Vixen then became a full-time member of the Arrowverse, with Mari's grandmother, Amaya Jiwe (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) joining the roster of Legends of Tomorrow.

Legends is set to get another Vixen influence next season, in the form of Mari's villainous sister Kuasa (Tracy Ifeachor). Kuasa played a significant role in Vixen's second season, one that is set to be addressed in Legends. With all of that in mind, Arrowverse fans would be remissed to not check out the Vixen: The Movie broadcast.

I wasn't sure why the CW went with the two-hour movie for Vixen as a special. This was just grouping together the short episodes over two seasons. It wasn't like this promoted this coming anyway. But even without heavy marketing, to have 700K viewers show up isn't bad.

The Vixen Animated Movie Ratings Were Low And It Doesn’t Matter

On Wednesday night, last week, The CW aired the Vixen movie and the ratings were very poor. How poor? Less than 700,000 viewers tuned in. What does this mean for the popularity of the Arrowverse? Has DCTV over-saturated and we’re starting to see the backlash? What’s next, dogs and cats living together? The end of the world? No. It doesn’t mean ANY of that. The fact I saw articles out there talking about the low numbers for the airing is rather ridiculous.

This was not the premiere of a new project. The network didn’t spend a bunch of time promoting it. I ran an article here about it because I came across a trailer for it on Youtube… on the CW Seed’s page, not the main CW page. I was out checking if there was more on the upcoming Freedom Fighters: The Ray series and found it. There was no media push. And this is a series that started up 2 years ago for free on the CWSeed website and then had a second season. You can go watch it right now here. Or you can buy it off of Amazon.com and watch it on your big screen TV.

They took an already finished and paid for animated series / movie, attached a few interview segments to promote the upcoming series returns and the new animated The Ray series and popped it into a 2-hour slot on a Wednesday evening in the middle of the summer on a night when a lot of the nation’s attention was on the tragedy happening in Houston, TX.

And if you haven’t watched it, I recommend you do.
