‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow': Ray Palmer/Atom’s Team Role Explained

When we interviewed executive producer/showrunner Phil Klemmer at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, he elaborated on Ray Palmer’s role – and personality – in Legends of Tomorrow. Despite having his heart broken by Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Palmer has remained one of the most positive and optimistic characters in Arrow’s Starling City. Klemmer said the hero will retain his cheery and motivated personality, but whether or not Palmer will become the leader is a whole different story:

“I don’t think Ray is traditionally ambitious. I mean I think he would want to be a leader just because he’s sort of that go-getter. I don’t think he has any sort of like Game of Thrones… He’s a guileless person. He plays his cards. He does not hold them close. I think when our team is assembled in this pilot, I think Ray is sort of like the cheerleader. Obviously Stein wants to travel in time because he’s a nuclear physicist…I think Ray is the sort of guy who is…he’s kind of like a Labrador retriever. It’s just like if you throw a ball, he’s going to run after it. And other members of the team are rightfully wary. They sort of recognize Rip’s offer to just take a little trip back in the past and kill Vandal Savage and save the world. It sounds simple. It’s clearly not going to be simple. But Ray is the sort of guy who will take people at face value because that’s how he sort of goes through the world: choosing to believe.”

HAWKMAN Cast For ARROW, THE FLASH, And DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

Hawkman will return to the small screen this year as Reckless and Transcendence actor Falk Hentschel has been cast as Carter Hall/Hawkman in Arrow, The Flash, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. This version of the character is described as, "the latest reincarnation of an Egyptian Prince who is fated to reincarnate throughout time along with his soulmate, Kendra Saunders (portrayed by Ciara Renee). Like Kendra, Carter can access the powers of the Hawk God, Horus, transforming him into the winged warrior known as Hawkman.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Producers Talk 'Hawkman', 'Booster Gold', 'Jay Jackson' & More

The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Legends Of Tomorrow EP's Marc Guggenheim & Phil Klemmer to discuss some intruiging new details about the show's first season. Beginning with inspiration and tone, Guggenheim revealed that he encouraged writing staff to read Dan Jurgens' 2011 comic book run Time Masters: Vanishing Point, calling it "a good series for its depiction of Rip Hunter and a crazy combination of characters."

I love it! He encouraged reading some of the stories. :whee:

Guggenheim also revealed that "the show will contain elements of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis’ Justice League International run" - alluding to both series' lighter tones.

Oh my! General Glory, please.

"Lady of Liberty, hear my plea —

For the land of the brave —

And home of the free!"

According to Klemmer, it might have to be. "I wish I could tease a Booster thing, but you might have to wait a good long while - at least on our show" he claimed. We still have no idea about DC's plan for either Booster Gold or Blue Beetle, but their absences from DC TV could potentially suggest a movie is on the way. "Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things..." Klemmer added, coyly.

:o

CW President Says No More DC Comics Spin-Offs After LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

The CW has exactly 10 hours of oringal programs to air each week during its primtime broadcasting hours. Three of those hours will be occupied by Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. In an effort to keep The CW from being renamed 'The DC'. CW President Mark Pedowitz stated that there will not be a new DC Comics show added to the network anytime soon. Disappointig news if you were somehow hoping that Matt Ryan's Constantine would further expand its migration from NBC to The CW in the form of a new show. For now, you'll just simply have to settle for the con artists of the magic world appearing in cameos. The same can be said for The CW Seed's Vixen, who will be voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke. Don't expect Echikunwoke to get her own live-action Vixen TV series but perhaps she'll have a cameo appearance.

Brandon Routh's Atom Costume Cost More Than The Average House

One of the biggest concerns Executive Producer Phil Klemmer has with Legends of Tomorrow is the pricey costume Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) wears when Ray Palmer becomes The Atom, which based on his comparison would put the price tag up around $189K.

"The only challenge is how expensive his costume costs, and the danger that we actually injure him doing stunts, because his costume actually costs not just more than a car — more than, like, your average American home," Klemmer told the website dclegendstv.com. So the scariest thing about Atom is I’m thinking, like, “when do you use a digital double, and when do you use Brandon?” I mean, obviously Brandon is irreplaceable."

"I loved Ant-Man and I love Paul Rudd, and I think he’s a hilarious guy, but to me, they’re just such different people — the fact that they share a crossover of powers… it also helped that I was thinking about Legends of Tomorrow before I ever saw Ant-Man," Klemmer said. "I mean, if I hadn’t started to write this first, I just never would have seen that, because you don’t want to be contaminated with another pre-existing idea. To me, Ray is a billionaire do-gooder with a secret and Paul Rudd (Scott Lang) is like a wisecracking cat burglar. So aside from the fact that they shrink, I don’t see a whole lot of overlap."

DC's Legends of Tomorrow Table Read Photo Released

The table read for DC's Legends of Tomorrow pilot is taking place now, apparently.

The series hasn't yet gone into production (that we know of), with the preview footage released at the end of the last season of Arrow and The Flash actually being custom-filmed for a sizzle reel, not part of the pilot itself.

Not really digging Hawkman

Looks like they're getting ready for an s&m bedroom romp.

I was just going to say they look like porn stars.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing.

I didn't say that was a bad thing...
