Drew Goddard To Direct SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN; 'Iron Man' And 'Sinister Six' To Appear?

-------------------

Latino-Review have dropped a massive scoop about Spectacular Spider-Man. Yup, it sounds like that's the title being considered by Marvel and Sony in what they hope will be a three part series coming out over three consecutive summers. Everything which was being developed by Sony (including that Aunt May spinoff) has now been scrapped, including the standalone Sinister Six movie. However, Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) isn't out of a job as he's set to write and direct Spectacular Spider-Man. That seems like a fitting title, and differentiates it from Amazing.

So, story details! As expected, there will be no origin story and the movie will take place in high school. However, they're thinking long term, as the actor cast as Spider-Man (likely an unknown, and NOT Dylan O'Brien as one redditor claims) is set to be involved with multiple trilogies similar to Harry Potter as we follow his journey over a number of years. Here's the really interesting stuff though. According to the site, "A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers" while "The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off."

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel And Sony's 'Spider-Man' Writer and Director Revealed!!

-------------------

There has been much reported on and some news neglected in recent weeks. Kevin Feige and the Marvel team will be producing the new series at Sony in what is envisioned as a three part series to come out over consecutive summers. There is talk about calling the series SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN after yet another Marvel comics series ala the last films being called “Amazing.”

Feige was allowed to join the process only after Ike Perlmutter, Feige’s boss and the man behind the curtain, insisted that former partner and one time friend Avi Arad be removed from the film series. Since Sony had installed Arad as a courtesy back in 2000 it was an easy removal legally. But since former Sony Studio head Amy Pascal made herself a producer on the film on the way out the door, I understand there was a lot of acrimony when Amy informed Avi he was out. Arad will receive an EP credit on the film and instead focus on making a feature out of GHOST IN THE SHELL without any Asian actors.

I understand that Avi’s partner on the recent less-than-stellar reboot Matt Tolmach was so shocked when Pascal (his close friend) informed him she was in and he was out he is now wandering the Sony lot dazed, like after a headbutt from the Rhino.

So the thinking at the moment is that Sony will faze out all the Spidey Verse films they were developing. Yes even the Aunt May film (that was real!) and focus on a story involving Spidey versus the Sinister Six. At one point they were developing a film that was just going to be a spinoff called THE SINISTER SIX. That’s scrapped but the big news is that the director of that film, Drew Goddard, will write AND direct the Spectacular Spider Man movie.

Dylan O'Brien Cast As The New SPIDER-MAN!?

-------------------

Ever since the announcement of Sony and Marvel teaming up to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe fans have been wondering who will be portraying the web-slinging, Spider-Menace and after a whole month of speculation according to a Reddit user known as 'redditleaker23456' Sony has found their new Spider-Man in the form of Teen Wolf actor, Dylan O'Brien. I also want to mention that this reddit user also dropped the news of the Sony/Marvel ahead of its announcement. Well how did Dylan O'Brien get the part? Apparently Dylan O'Brien gave Sony the "audition of his life" and that Sony "loved what they saw from him". Furthermore, Dylan O'Brien managed to beat out Logan Lerman because Sony felt "Dylan had a better grasp and feel of the tone they were going for".

(shrug) where's Miles??

Back into the dollar bins. :tonofbricks:

But in all seriousness, this all sounds and looks promising. Shows the big difference in direction and focus that can result with the character being placed back under Marvel's competent and capable stewardship.

More Details On Whether Drew Goddard Will Direct Marvel's SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN

-------------------

As it turns out, The Wrap cautions that it's not quite a done deal, with their insiders adding: "Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others." The Cabin in the Woods helmer is said to be a heavy favourite and it's not believed he will pass if it's offered to him. The Hollwood Reporter get even more specific though, confirming that the studios are very interested in having Goddard both write and direct, and that he's set to meet them TOMORROW.

"A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers"

Please please please that would be SO COOL.

I think one of my favourite things about Spidey was when he was portrayed not as a heavy hitter, and rather as a gifted amateur, while the 'real superheroes' protected the world from cosmic threats and evil plots of world domination. And yet he'd always have those moments where he was the centre of the world, and the big guys would be in his debt. It obvious why that sort of underdog / 'little guy amazes everyone' story appealed to me.

So yeah, I would LOVE to see Spidey as the little guy meeting the heavy-hitting Avengers, being underestimated, and then teaching them a lesson.
