At one point, Tim Miller mentioned part of his contribution was donated time and support from Blur Studios (the SFX company that created the movie intro scene, and so much more).

With the director change, so goes the Blur Studios free time. Potentially. Which could mean we see that production budget jump up.

nuts that they'd give pro bono work on the movie without some sort of "we'll pay you something if we gross over $200 million" or whatever

Ryan Reynolds was paid $2MM salary and ended up with an additional $10MM due to all the goals exceeded. I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Miller had something on a lower scale. Especially being his first time directing.

What a disaster of a movie.  I knew giving Mangold (or Hackgold as I refer to him) the opportunity to come back and properly destroy everything was a bad idea.

The opening scene and the hotel/casino scene were the only enjoyable aspects.  So two fights scenes.  It really amazes me to be able to watch a movie and know that every scene could've been improved in some way.   And whats with the nonsensical cursing? lol

I found this, it sums up my feelings perfectly

Thats a good point.

In the past, I struggled with the accuracy versus originality argument of the movies versus comics. I actually have grown to like what The Walking Dead has done with having a thread similar to the comics while retaining originality in the show. I don't see why people complain about that in comic book movies. If a movie is a bad movie, its a bad movie. There are bad comics too. I thought Logan was great while most of the other X-men movies have been poor to VERY poor. Not because they werent "accurate", but because they were poorly written and/or executed. I usually fall asleep in the Avengers movies too. I did love Civil War though.

Where would you rank 'First Class' and "Days of Future Past'?

I liked First Class a lot....for some reason, I really didnt care for DoFP. I need to go re-watch it though. Maybe it was my mood that night or something. I only saw it once. I might do that this weekend.

I liked the first X-men and X2. I didnt like X3 or the recent Apocalypse one at all. X2 was probably my favorite of all of the besides Logan. First Class was right behind those two for me.

I suggest giving it a try. But rather than look for it to match the short comic book story (if that even is a distraction), see it more as a different portrayal.

If you liked First Class and the cast that came out of that film, then I would be surprised if you are heavily disappointed in DoFP. It is probably 75% new casts across the film - with the old cast included to allow Bryan Singer to wrap up his original films (something he noted as part of his motivation). For me, before Logan it provided the best Wolverine portrayal, and a great follow-up to the Xavier-Magneto relationship. Even the Jennifer Lawrence portrayal of Mystique worked, which became a flaw later for Apocalypse.

Good luck!

Because it had Wolverine and Peter Dinklage.

They were close though.

Sorry. I didn't mean to compare the two movies. More, how would he rate them as standalone films.

But I agree. DoFP just has that extra special something.

I thought Logan was a good film. It wasn't your typical Wolverine film as it was more about his age and his relationship with Lauren.

I actually thought it was one of the better superhero movies made.

The main antagonist was a bit hokey but this was probably the best Wolverine move of the bunch IMO.

There are very few movies I hate in general. Even all the movies that are hated by the majority of people, I can still find some entertainment value in them. I think when people dislike a movie like Logan, they usually have a checklist of expectations, and are constantly looking for ways to improve it, instead of just enjoying the ride. It's like driving to a beach, and instead of enjoying the beach, you complain about the traffic on the way there. You get so focused on the small details and imperfections that you fail to enjoy the big picture. Logan isnt a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still an incredible movie, and is much better than most of the comic book garbage that's been released. It obviously hit home for the majority of Wolverine fans, and deserves the credit and acknowledgment its received. The best thing Logan did (and Deadpool for that matter) was raise the bar for superhero movies to come. We're going to see a major change in how these movies are made from here on out.

The author seems to be unaware of a lot of things.

The main problem I had with that article is it seemed the author was mostly pissed that it wasn't a straight adaptation of Old Man Logan.

And that Logan himself couldn't be world-weary without having himself caused the Westchester disaster.

As someone who never read Old Man Logan, I wasn't bothered by either of these things. The story worked on its own -- apparently better if you weren't expecting the source material.

It's like misplaced nerd rage if the movie isn't an exact reproduction of the comic book storyline to the screen, even if the story itself as adapted to the screen works better.

And it's one of the reasons I love Iron Man 3 - the Mandarin twist was _brilliant_, even if it caused a legion of comic nerds so much butt-hurt.

I thought Iron Man 3 was absolutely brilliant - little kid Christmas and all, until the final scene, where (IIRC) Gwyneth Paltrow gets turned into an immortal Iron Woman. _That_ was stupid. But the Mandarin? Brilliant.

He didn't come across as savage to me -mostly a sickly whiner and running away all the time.

But that's the whole point of the movie Old Man Logan, this isn't Savage Logan or Cranky Logan

Spoiler

Wolverine is a broken man, he is lonely, unhappy, sick and facing his mortality.  Hiding who he is, working a cruddy job, living only to care for his only friend.

There was just so much meat to this story.  Professor X, the greatest mind on the planet, suffering from Alzheimer's.  The bullet  signifying  Wolverine's contemplation of suicide.  The death of mutants as we knew them and the death of two of the most important characters Marvel ever created.  Passing the torch to X23

This was a movie that took chances, covered ground that's never been covered by a superhero movie before.  It's a tour de force elevating the genre beyond the usual special effects, well timed wisecracks, and razzle dazzle super powered circuses we've seen before - don't get me wrong, I like razzle dazzle circuses as much as the next guy.
