Star Wars Weekly

Does anyone here collect the UK series Star Wars Weekly? I picked up a few nice copies recently, and hope to pick up a few more. Some covers are just taken direct from the US series, but there are many really cool totally original covers as well.

I see there are only a small handful of issues on the CGC census. I guess I didn't realize CGC graded them. Is this something new, or are the issues just not worth enough to justify the grading cost?

Generally, foreign comics have not found favor with many U.S. collectors, and Star Wars comics is no exception. I think it is a combination of this and those issue not being worth much that prevents more of them from being graded.

I have almost a complete run of the British Star Wars Weekly. On my Star Wars Comic Collector blog, you will find some posts about Star Wars Weekly issues including some comparison posts between the U.S. and British editions:

Lots of cool info on your Star Wars blog. I especially like the Star Wars Weekly #11 cover with Darth Vader looking at he names of Luke & R2 on the monitor. I never noticed that before.

Thanks for the response.

I collected the Alan Moore and Grant Morrison issues of Star Wars Weekly. I agree American collectors don't care much about UK books. Which is why I can afford them now, before they--and the global market--stop caring about the distinction between US and UK!

I had some graded a few months ago. They look very nice :)

I was pretty peeved by CGC's inconsistent approach to handling loose free gifts though, as mentioned in another thread.

Nice group shot! I think I like the #12 cover the best of that bunch.

That's interesting about the insert in the #1 & #2. I didn't realize it was not attached to the interior.

I've seen several and they've never been attached in any way, nor is there any sign of how they could have been attached. I'm confident they have always been loose inserts.

Grant Morrison did issues of Star Wars Weekly?  I knew about his Doctor Who work (I have reprints), and his Action Force stories (I have the originals), but didn't know he had done anything for Star Wars.

I've got a decent assortment of other Marvel UK books, with a complete run of the Alan Davis drawn Captain Britain, and the Night Raven text stories, but none of the Star Wars stuff.

Don't even get me started on Spider-Man and Zoids...
