CBS All Access's STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Show

Star Trek: Discovery will return.

A day after its third-season launch, CBS All Access has handed out a fourth-season renewal for the cornerstone of its rapidly expanding Star Trek franchise. Production on the new season will resume Nov. 2. A return date has not yet been determined.

Franchise captain Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise will continue to serve as co-showrunners on season four of the drama from CBS TV Studios and starring Sonequa Martin-Green. Paradise in season three became the third showrunner to pilot Discovery. Kurtzman, who co-created the series alongside Bryan Fuller, took over for Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg after the duo were dismissed early in production of season two. Harberts and Berg replaced Fuller, who was also let go before Discovery's debut.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast this month, Kurtzman said he had the future of the Star Trek franchise mapped out through 2027. Discovery is the flagship of the Star Trek universe for CBS All Access, which, like other streamers, does not release viewership information. A Discovery spinoff, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, starring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn was recently ordered to series at CBS All Access.

That marks the third live-action Star Trek series and fourth overall for CBS All Access, joining the flagship Discovery, Patrick Stewart vehicle Picard and forthcoming animated series Lower Decks. Another Discovery spinoff — Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh — is also in development for the streamer. A younger-skewing CG-animated series was recently picked up for CBS All Access corporate sibling Nickelodeon. All of them are exec produced by Kurtzman. All of the series hail from CBS TV Studios (where Kurtzman is under a rich overall deal), Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

CBS All Access poised to be rebranded as Paramount+ as parent company ViacomCBS looks to broaden the platform to include more brands from its vast portfolio.

Season 3 - its great - everyone should watch it!

Goodness me - how epically good was the opening episode!

Star Trek meets Andromeda with a bit of Star Wars thrown in.

If they keep this up, this will be an awesome season.

Genuinely moved by 'Acting Communications Officer Sahil'

This is top shelf sci-fi

9/10

Loved it!

hard to get motivated after how much season 2 was a letdown for me. i really enjoyed season 1, but last season the writing felt worse, the plots were less engaging, every ep was like "we're gonna meet spock this week! fooled ya!" plus tig notaro? come on, not an actress. thats a comedian.

i like smg but do not think this show is worth paying more money to watch again. i paid to watch last season and still couldnt finish it.

I enjoyed last season - this is a whole higher level though.

Really good.

Episode 2 continues to impress.

Bit too much 'Mcguffin' at times - but that's the only very small quibble.

Great transition from crew to Team, and the biggest dog in the yard is taught it's new place in the future.

It's really Star Trek meets Firefly and combines the best of both.

Great Sci-Fi

Interestingly - new writers, new directors in Discovery, and they are really making this new Star Trek franchise hum nicely.

Episode 3 serves to be 'the filler' - confirming the new 'mission' and rounding out the crew, as well as the first tentative steps towards the new federation.

Slower, but necessary to the season, - no doubt ep 4 will be warp 9 ahead!

Good ep - enjoyed it.

I thought the same thing. Though that's okay when you have 13-14 episodes in a season.

Once again we find out a little more about the future Federation. Which is interesting.

Spoiler

I suspect sabotage. And I wonder if it will be someone internal that felt the Federation may have lost its way?

Episode 4 serves up

Spoiler

a timely reminder of the cost the crew paid, plus it's 'next stop - the remains of starfleet'

Good SFX and solid acting keeps this series way above the norm.

Still filler - but well acted, damn good filler.

"You want to see what WE can do Lieutenant?"

"CODE BLACK"......

Adding Oded Fehr provides yet more classy acting to this awesome show.

Great Episode, great Season development. Can't wait until next week.

S3 Ep6 builds nicely the impending reveal of 'The Burn'

Kinda 'Battlefield earth' in this weeks setting, costume wise, Discovery gets all shiny, and Michael learns that things have consequences.

And Phillipa - have we seen the last of Control?

Having a bad feeling about maybe Phillipa and The Burn maybe caused by you-know-what.....

More great acting, a really fat cat, and good old fashioned sci-fi keeps this season easily the best Star Trek Season ever - behind only Picard/Locucious and The Borg in TNG.

Highly recommended  8 /10

Have to agree. This is turning out to be a solid season so far. The show seems to have hit its stride.

And I'm thinking the same thing with The Burn. Something is going to link back to Season Two events.
