The New Mutants #100 3rd print.... low-print/HTF?

Yeah -- that was a wicked fun summer.

 

I was traveling throughout the southwest with my parents on a family vacation -- remember picking up every Cable card of X-Force 1 I could find as we made our way through Colorado, New Mexico & Arizona, negative Captain America or not. Ended up with 11 copies.

 

Also, picking up Infinity Gauntlet # 2 from a newsstand just outside Yellowstone.

 

Great time to be 13.

I don't recall every hearing any confirmed info. as to the reason for the negative UPC.

I snapped to it the night we were at the shop selling to customers standing in

lines out my front door. Suddenly I was selling 10 copies, not 5. And was on

the phone to reorder before Diamond closed for the evening.

I'm not sure that it was ever explicitly explained by Marvel, but this has to be the reason right here. That's not the sort of thing that pops up as an error. They created an alternate version because they knew that there would be enough people out there that had to have every version, so it would sell more copies.
