Just watched it last night. Like most everyone else, I really liked it. I got to wondering afterwards ... seeing as I haven't really read Spider-man in about 3 decades, I have no idea whether the movie holds true to the comics. I know who Miles Morales is, and I know Gwen is from an alternate universe ... but that's about the extent of my knowledge on those characters. So did the movie follow the comic (whichever that comic is, I don't know)?

There is a spider-verse crossover.  It introduced spider-gwen.  Nothing at all like the movie, except it was an excuse to have a million different spider people (but it's a fun read IMO)

The digital copy of Into The Spider-Verse comes out next week (that was fast).

'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' Deleted Scene Released Online

Quote

Ahead of its digital release next week, Sony Pictures Animation has started rolling out extras included with the film. Earlier in the week, ComicBook.com unveiled a featurette focusing Spider-Gwen and now, a new deleted scene has surfaced (via io9) showing an emotional talk between Miles (Shameik Moore) and Peter (Jake Johnson).

Heading into the 91st Academy Awards tomorrow, Into The Spider-Verse has had a pretty killer run this awards season, winning a Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film. It's nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, where it will have to compete with Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Mirai, and Ralph Breaks the Internet.

The full list of special features included on the home media release of the film can be found below.

Hear from the artists and filmmakers who pushed the boundaries of the artform as they discuss their journey.
  • The Ultimate Comics Cast: Enjoy this showcase of all of the fan favorite characters featured in the Spider-Verse and the spectacular cast who were chosen to bring them to life.
  • A Tribute to Stan Lee & Steve Ditko: Celebrate the amazing legacy and powerful spirit of the creators of Spider-Man.

  • All-New Original Short “Spider-Ham: Caught In a Ham” It's another normal day for Peter Porker, a.k.a. the Spectacular Spider-Ham, fighting bad guys and loving hot dogs, until a mysterious portal starts messing with the very fabric of his cartoon reality.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is set for digital release on February 26th and will be followed by home media release on March 19th.

Pretty close.

after they cut the mike on the guy accepting the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, you can lip read him: "this is ok, but if we had gone direct to video, i could've gotten a free lifetime membership to Blockbuster." #RT29rules

Agreed.  Much better movie overall than The Incredibles 2 was.

Broke $360M worldwide yesterday. I wonder if this will be a more massive Home Market candidate? Though with the early digital sales there is no consolidated tracking.

I finally watched it last night.  I mean, I've got nothing really new to add since it seems everyone enjoyed it.

All I can say is that it feels like the most "comic book-y" movie I've ever seen.  Like, I can easily see it starting life as a mini-series (though, it sounds like a completely original story).  6 issue mini's generally have these cliffhangers that close out the last page of each book, and I got the same kind of beats/pacing with Into the Spider-verse.  Overall, very well done.  And astonishing the quality of talent they're able to cast.

I think this is the Amazon limited edition lenticular cover version of the bluray. A really sharp touch, to me.

The other studios sure seem to be figuring things out lately, each with their own style. Was only a matter of time I suppose. Some cross-pollination may be contributing as well.
