Former Gambit Director Rumored To Oversee Green Lantern Corps

Quote

According to a new report, another Planet of the Apes creator may be coming to the DCEU.

Thanks to That Hashtag Show (via Omega Underground), a new rumor regarding Green Lantern Corps’ director has been released. The report suggests that former Gambit director Rupert Wyatt is being eyed to oversee the upcoming DCEU film. The site seems to be basing its claims on a newly discovered casting call, but there has been no official word from any party confirming the rumor.

Wyatt is not the first director who has been attached to Green Lantern Corps as of late. Back in March, Meet The Movie Press reported that David Goyer may be tapped to direct the film. Jeff Sneider revealed he was "hearing David Goyer could very well wind up directing Green Lantern Corps himself.” Right now, Goyer is expected to help pen the film's -script, so the writer could also take up residence in the director's chair if Warner Bros. felt so inclined.

Hal Jordan & John Stewart Confirmed For Green Lantern Corps

Quote

Warner Bros. confirms Hal Jordan and John Stewart for their upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie.

During their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon, Warner Bros. revealed multiple logos for the upcoming DCEU slate as well as showcased all their DC Comics heroes in one massive character lineup image. According to that image, both Hal Jordan (the second Lantern) and John Stewart (the fourth Lantern) will be in Green Lantern Corps.

Aside from whomever the studio selects to direct Green Lantern Corps, the main question on fans’ minds is, who will play the Lanterns? Several people have been rumored for the roles over the years, with some having thrown their hats into the ring as well. Armie Hammer has been the most popular name attached to Hal Jordan, though he has repeatedly said that he hasn’t been contacted by Warners for the gig. As for John Stewart, some people have lobbied for actors like Idris Elba and Sterling K. Brown to land the highly coveted role, whereas actors like Common and Tyrese Gibson have actively campaigned for the part. In fact, Gibson recently revealed that he’s met with the studio multiple times, though he wasn’t able to confirm nor deny his involvement with the project.

'Green Lantern' Scriptwriter Wants 'American Gods' Actor As John Stewart

Screenwriter Michael Green — who helped pen 2011's Green Lantern and this year's noirish Logan — has thrown American Gods actor Ricky Whittle's name into the ring to play John Stewart, should the architect-turned-cosmic-cop ever make the jump to the big screen.

"I’ll probably get angry texts if I don’t say what’s in my heart which is that Ricky Whittle would make a fantastic John Stewart," Green answered when asked by Yahoo which actor he'd like to see play the next Green Lantern.

Whittle stars as Shadow Moon in American Gods, an adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel, where Green serves as writer and executive producer. Green, who shared a Green Lantern screenplay credit with Greg Berlanti and writers Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, said he'd be open to another go at the Green Lantern mythos despite the critical and financial failure of the 2011 adaptation.

"I feel like my experience on Green Lantern is very much unfinished and there are stories to tell there," Green said. "That was not a film that turned out the way we’d hoped going in and I think there is an appetite for a better version of that."

GREEN LANTERN CORPS Writer David S. Goyer Confirms That The Movie Is Still In Development

IGN caught up with David S. Goyer at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, and when quizzed about the current status of the film, he assured them that it is still "in the works", while also acknowledging that things could change on that front at any time.

Here's what Goyer said when asked of he had any idea when fans could expect to hear more about the project:

"I don’t know. Who knows, especially with what’s currently going on with the DC universe? There’s obviously a whole re-calibration happening with that right now."

If there is one film they should be putting more effort into as a large-scale space movie with a massive team, it is this one. It's not sounding like that right now.

The Academy Award-winning writer of The Usual Suspects, and director of the last two Mission: Impossible (ROGUE NATION and the upcoming FALLOUT) films, is currently being eyed to bring Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the other lanterns into the DCU.

Through THS, we’ve also laid eyes on the rumored synopsis for the film:

“Former test pilot Hal Jordan, now a veteran of the intergalactic group of protectors for peace and justice known as the GREEN LANTERN CORPS, mentors young recruit John Stewart.“

GREEN LANTERN CORPS: Warner Bros. Reportedly Looking For Younger Actors To Play John Stewart

Quote

Apparently, the studio is hoping to find someone in their late 20s or early 30s to take on the role of John Stewart, a fan-favorite character whose big screen debut has been rumored for years now.

This news comes after Black Panther star Sterling K. Brown revealed that he's interested in the role. He's 42-years-old, though, and this claim also puts the likes of Idris Elba and Tyrese Gibson out of the running (in the case of the latter, that's no bad thing).
