On sale dates for the three May 1938 DCs with the Action 1 ad:

More Fun 31: April 19, 1938

Detective 15: April 26, 1938

New Adventure 26: April 28, 1938.

So, the More Fun 31 was the first look at a caped superhero ... ever!

Nope. Dr. Occult was first.

He had a cape? Don't think so.

Yes he did in More Fun issues 14-17, which were published in 1936 - 1937.

Here's the iconic panel from MF 14:

Real nice lookin' copy Steve (thumbs u

Thanks, I'm really happy with it - like all early GA (especially oversized issues like this book), finding a sweet copy can be a real challenge.

Those dates would seem to make sense since they fall on a Tuesday and Thursday which were the 2 days for newsstand distribution where I lived during the 1960's and 70's. (thumbs u

Not sure about the 1930's though, but it would surprised me if they were the same 2 days. (shrug)

Your are correct, sir ... so let me rephrase:

More Fun 31 was the first printed look at Superman ... ever!

Well, if you are talking about Dr. Occult, then how about going all the way back to January of 1933 for Science Fiction #3 where Siegel & Shuster had their Reign of the Superman story. hm

Ok, he did look more like Lex Luthor there as opposed to Superman. lol

it says 32 has inside front cover add when i went to heritage

I think the more fun, adventure and detective books from both may and june of 1938 all had the action #1 ad. The ad for June was slightly different than the ad for may, but both featured the cover showing superman. I have the more fun from june of 1938 (issue #32) and it has the ad:

Well, if Dr. Occult was the first caped hero in comics, then any idea as to who was the first masked hero in comics? hm
