Titles and issues that have been dropped from Overstreet (and/or might never have been in it). I’m not looking for a fight over what SHOULD be in…I KNOW some of these are variants or UK or whatever…Just noting what's not in there, right or wrong. (Though I’d think if you want to remain the industry bible,you’d aim for comprehensiveness, especially with growing interest in variants and promo/preview comics.) Please add or correct me if I’ve listed something here that actually is in Overstreet (maybe under a different name). And let's encourage them to go properly digital, and update in real time. Enough already!

You could take just about every book in Fogel's Underground Price Guide and add it to the list. There are also dozens, perhaps far more, of giveaways ( mostly from the 1950s) that are not listed.

 

I haven't bought a guide in years, but it was my understanding that they have had a long term policy of not listing titles in which nothing is valued at more than cover price. I'm guessing there is still very little from alternative publishers known for more adult and offbeat "underground" style comics like Fantagraphics/Eros, Kitchen Sink and D&Q, as well as translated European/Foreign comics published in GN form or otherwise by those and others.

 

Does the guide list any of the myriad newspaper strip/comic book reprint tiles put out by Eternity and others in the 80s and 90s? Or for that matter all the AC retro/reprint books?

 

I imagine the list of US distributed comics and graphic novels not included in OSPG would go well into the thousands.

I actually DIDN'T list a lot of undergrounds I have, so, yes, I recognize that. But I also think a lot of the ones I've listed go for more than cover price. Especially when it comes to some variants. And, yes, they're obviously reluctant to list "adult" stuff. So, basically, yes, agreeing with pretty much everything you say! All that said, there are STILL some omissions that fall outside those categories, I think. And that's the kind of thing that drives collectors--me, included--to rely on other price guides...which you would think a rival price guide wouldn't want to do. I find the online ones much more comprehensive, for the most part.

For years I've been trying to assess the value of my Dakota North miniseries... Each year I crack open the new Overstreet hoping to get accurate info, only to find out it's been omitted once again.

Not sure what the reasoning with Overstreet taking Heavy Metal out of the guide. It used to be included. Similar books targeted towards the adult audience like like Gasm, 1984/1994, and Epic are in.

Yup. Great point. As for Dakota North, I get it re the value, but Overstreet is more than a price guide. It's a resource for future collecting and investment. It's a guide to other, unexplored treasures out there. If I'm an Alan Moore fan and pick up Overstreet, I probably don't even know about most of his work.
