He was almost a pre-Todd McFarlane

I've loved this piece since the day I saw it. If I had the money to away Id buy it too

It was the special title plate on the signed and numbered edition of 4000.

 

So, when you bought that special (and in the day quite valuable) s/n edition, this was the page he signed.

 

Collected graphic novels were still new and pages and pages of extras weren't de rigeur yet. This page was the original "extra" in the gn edition

the drawing that sold for 175k, was that created in the 80s?

 

The GN was published in 1986, so I guess the answer is yes.
