@Scrooge: does this one correspond to a daily as well? If so I'd love to see it, because I don't really get the cover gag...

Well they did manage to theme it for July with the fireworks! Looks like Donald's bright idea is to graduate to the cannon from the firecrackers; but if you have to explain a joke it doesn't work too well!!

I went back to the collection, went into the second volume and checked the Sundays. Nope. Nowhere to be seen unless I missed it.

I did catch a few more - Now, you don't have to wonder about the nephew's scared expression on the right. He is not angry as the others are but concerned. See the final panel to know why! [Click on strip to see larger image]

Thanks Scrooge. There's at least one more. The middle daily on this page from WDC&S #9...

... is also the cover of #14 (which is one of the ones I don't have):

While I'm here, here's another version of the rooster panel, this time on the front of a UK bi-weekly comic paper, repurposed as a WW2 exhortation.

Nice catch. So easy to miss. I find out that I am not completely familiar with the early WDCS covers!

It popped into my head while looking at this cover that I can't think of another Barks cover that references a non-Duck Disney IP. Is there one?

Edited to add: And, of course, it's actually a Strobl cover. doh! Anyway, are there any Barks covers referencing Disney IP? Or other WDC&S covers, even if by other artists?

There are quite a few by Walt Kelly among the first years of WDC&S. Mickey appears on quite a few, as do the dwarves and gremlins - but none by Barks that I can think of.

Had no idea Mickey appeared on so many of the covers, as iv'e always viewed the the title primarily as a Donald vehicle

This is the very last cover appearance of Mickey on WDC&S during the time period it was published by Dell.

Me, too. I do have some of those early books with Mickey covers but I didn't realize how many there were.

So far as I know, there wasn't a cross-over story featuring both of them during the Dell WDC&S period.

Found at my LCS today.  20 to go for the complete 386 to 71 run.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can someone help me out with what the "386-71" run means please?

I know you have the 3 issues of Four Color, then #s 4-39 from the Dell 1953 series, but then the numbering continues with the Western 1963 series, correct? I guess my confusion arises because the Western series goes up well past #71, so I'm unsure where the 71 in 386-71 comes from.

Sorry, there was probably a less confusing way to ask this.
