Rob Liefeld's PROPHET from Fox Films (maybe)

Time to grab up those Youngblood #2's from the quarter bin.

Rob Liefeld's Prophet Could Be Headed to Hollywood

The Tracking Board reports that 20th Century Fox is taking a long look at Rob Liefeld's creator-owned series Prophet.

Originally a supporting character in Youngblood, John Prophet, a troubled super-soldier who gained his powers from a time-traveler. Prophet is, not unlike iZombie, populated by larger-than-life characters, some of whom (most notably Prophet and villain Philip Omen) have names with symbolic significance to their personalities or the plot.

There were a pair of Prophet series in the '90s, generating millions of sales, but like many of Liefeld's creator-owned characters, John Prophet largely disappeared for a few years around the turn of the century. In 2012, the series was revived with Brandon Graham and Simon Roy at the helm. That title was broadly acclaimed at its launch, but ended in the summer of 2014, setting up Prophet: Earth War. That's expected to have more direct involvement by Liefeld and to hew somewhat more closely to the bombastic action of the early Prophet stories. It was originally planned for this year but TTB now places it in 2016.

EXCLUSIVE: Marc Guggenheim has been set by Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 to adapt Prophet, the Image Comics character hatched by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld.

The aim is to build a franchise around John Prophet, a DNA enhanced super-soldier placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken prematurely in the present, searching for a mission that does not exist. The ruthless berserker must find his humanity.

Pic is produced by Adrian Askarieh (Hitman: Agent 47), Brooklyn Weaver (Run All Night), and Rob Liefeld. John Hyde and Terissa Kelton will also be involved in producing capacities.

Prophet originated in Liefeld’s Youngblood, and grew into a series of his own in 1993. He cross-pollinated with another Liefeld creation, Cable, who was played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2 and is expected to be part of the X-Force franchise launch that Drew Goddard is writing to direct. It’s all based on the comic characters created by Liefeld, who made a deal with Netflix for his Extreme Universe pool of superhero characters to be used in franchise creations creatively overseen by Akiva Goldsman.

Guggenheim is best known for Arrow, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, and he’s making his directorial debut on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, a crossover from The Flash, with that episode to air shortly on the CW. He’s also adapting the graphic novel Gantz for Sony Pictures.

My excitement for this is either or.

Either it's based on the Graham/Roy series...and I'm excited, or it's based on the 90s Liefeld series and I'm not.

We have enough standard superhero stuff right now, so give us crazy bonkers Conan-esq stories in sci-fi worlds without explanation, lots of fantastical weird non-humanoid aliens wanting sex, giant gelatinous space baby suits, and a legion of Prophets awakening with nothing but murder missions on their minds!

Liefeld has spoken up to give Prophet fans an update on the movie’s status, and his news is encouraging to say the least. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Liefeld indicated that Prophet is still very much on track, and producers are just waiting for Gyllenhaal and Hargrave to get finished with their currently-filming projects. Check out his remarks in the space below:

"Jake has come on as a producer. The draft that is being completed right now is a polish of the second act. There was one sequence that was added, that everyone was like 'How did we never think of that?' Prophet is like...I wish I could share the screenplay with everybody. It's that old adage: if it's not on the page, it's not on the screen. Marc Guggenheim, his draft got us Sam Hargrave, got us Jake Gyllenhaal. That's how good the paper is....But we always knew, Jake was always making Road House right now. Sam was never going to be done with Extraction 2, even a year ago, there was an additional 13, 14 months. So we're extremely excited. In the business of movies, you just hope that your important contributors stay on board, and as of today, Jake is fully engaged, giving notes, taking meetings, shaping the movie, and Sam is in his free time away from Extraction 2, has continued to shape it. I am super excited, I don't want to jinx it, but it is a big deal.”

He might not be the best  comic book artist, but his podcasts are A number 1. He gives all the dirt that went down with Marvel and Image Comics. Honestly, he is like a comic book historian. I never really cared for him, but after listening to his podcasts he comes off quite likeable. :fear:

He loved George Perez.

His feud with Todd McFarlane!

Todd does not come off good in these podcasts by Rob Liefeld!  Made me think that their are two sides to every story.

His early early work (his first take on Youngblood that he used for his portfolio) was VERY much in the style of George Perez. He was clearly a big influence on Rob in those early days. That soon got lost though.
