DC War was all I saw on the newstand as a kid during the late '70s. Woolworth was the only place I could find Charltons back then and for some reason, war comics were never available.

I remember buying Charlton at Woolworth as well. I remember them being in 3 packs. I still have them, opened of course. Not in good condition but has sentimental meaning to me.

Thanks for sharing!
Happy to know I wasn’t the only one looking for Charltons in Woolworth. Was always an interesting hunt since the newsstand was dominated by Marvel and DC. The people growing up in this internet age will never know the joy in collecting we had back then.

SSWS 183 and 159 (not the actual copies shown below though) were two of my earliest war comics. My dad took me to my first comic show back around 1978/79 and I came home with a small stack of war comics.

Back in those days, comics for me was DC war, Richie Rich, Sad Sack, and Uncle Scrooge. Odd combo to be sure lol

Two purchases from my earliest collecting years.  Amazed they look this good after all these years!

Time to nominate what you consider the greatest Bronze Age War covers. Will identify a few and see if we can get a top 10. Kubert’s classic Bicentennial Rock cover is one of the best representations of the Spirit of 1976 and one that belongs on the list:
