Back on 10/23/15 the news broke that SYFY was considering a David Goyer production entitled 'Krypton'.

Looks like that Krypton prequel isn't dead.

‘Krypton': David S. Goyer Offers Update on Superman Prequel Series

Steve recently sat down with Goyer to discuss the new season of his Starz series Da Vinci’s Demons, and took the opportunity to ask Goyer about the status Krypton. Goyer not only confirmed the series still in development, but offered some insight into the time period and focus of the series. Watch what he had to say below, and scroll through to read his quotes.

"Part of the fun of doing Man of Steel — and I was so insistent on setting that opening on Krypton and really seeing it, was pulling back the curtain. The first draft, the first forty pages were on Krypton, so we compressed that all down to fifteen minutes and there were a lot of ideas that I wanted to use in the film that didn’t ultimately make it into the film."

"In terms of production value, you have to pick your moments. It will definitely, should we make the show there will definitely be some big moments. It won’t be wall to wall visual effects every single moment, spectacle, in the way that the film will be, but we’ll also be digging into the characters and the culture a lot more."

And now it may move forward.

Krypton Close To Pilot Order From SyFy

SyFy is looking to get into the superhero business according to THR with a possible pilot order for David S. Goyer's Krypton. The series would be Goyer's take on Superman's origin story, but not in the way you might think.

The narrative would be constructed around the House of El and when they were ostracized from Kryptonian society. Superman's grandfather would be the primary protagonist, and would follow his attempts to bring equality to Krypton.

The show will be executive produced by Damian Kindler (Stargate SG-1) and directed by Colm McCarthy (Sherlock). No actors have been attached yet, but assuming the series gets officially picked up that shouldn't be far behind.

So it's a story about a disgraced family on an alien planet. Sounds awesome.

Character List For KRYPTON Includes Superman and Zod's Ancestors And A LEGION OF SUPERHEROES Member

Clearly inspired by the success of Gotham and the positive response to the scenes set on that world in Man of Steel, it's actually easy enough to understand why they're moving forward with the show. Now, a list of the characters have been revealed, and it sounds like an interesting mixture.

SEG-EL - described as athletic, quietly confident, and in his 20s, an older version of this character appeared in Starman #51 alongside his son Jor-El (Superman's father).

LYTA ZOD - a beautiful twentysomething, Lyta is a reluctant warrior and has a familial tie to eventual Superman villain General Zod.

VAL-EL - The genius grandfather of Seg, he defied death by entering the Phantom Zone and believes in space exploration.

ALURA ZOD - Lyta's mother, she too is obviously related to General Zod in some way.

DEVE-EM - A "bad boy" in his twenties, this chisele character was a reluctant ally to the Legion of Superheroes once upon a time, but has clashed with Superboy and Superman on a handful of occasions as a villain.

TER-EL - Seg's father.

Production on the pilot episode of Krypton is set to begin this summer, so expect some casting news to follow this list. It definitely appears as if the focus here will be on the El and Zod families anyway.

Georgina Campbell Lands Lead Role In Syfy's SUPERMAN Prequel TV Series KRYPTON

Deadline reveals that Georgina Campbell - who received rave reviews for starring in BBC drama Murdered by My Boyfriend and will next be seen in Broadchurch and Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - has landed the role of newly created character Lyta Zod in Syfy's Krypton. The prequel TV series is being developed by Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer.

Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel's home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El - whose House of El was ostracized and shamed - as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. It's not clear whether or not the show will have any ties to the DC Films Universe of The CW's Supergirl, but it seems highly unlikely.

The trade adds that, "Lyta Zod is a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of a general — that would be Superman’s future nemesis, General Zod, Lyta Zod serves as a cadet — and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El."

How old do they think General Zod is? If his daughter is in a romance with Superman's young grandfather... that makes General Zod approximately Superman's great-grandfather's generation. Two generations older than Jor-El.

I never considered this.

Longevity - Allows a Kryptonian to grow old without appearing to age, enabling them to be effectively younger than how they look, having an average life span far greater than that of humans. A Kryptonian's constant absorption of solar energy delays cell deterioration; as such, provided they are under a yellow sun. This, along with their immunity to earthly diseases, bacteria, and viruses, provides a Kryptonian with a form of ageless immortality, unless they are killed by either a being of similar incalculable strength, or during an exposure to kryptonite xenominerals or a red sun's radiation.

OK, but if it's Krypton, then it's a red sun, and Zod would age normally... and be two generations older than Jor-El. lol

I think the longevity description is even before they experiencing the benefits of Earth's Sun. But it is kind of crazy Zod will potentially be older than Jor-El. I guess we will have to see where this Kryptonian train takes up.
