KRYPTON on SYFY Channel

Talk about an intense and accurate portrayal of Doomsday as a mindless killing machine. Crushing and ripping off heads and limbs. Now I get why the show was moved to 10 PM.

One of the leads of the show going out with a bang while giving Doomsday the finger was deifinitely an unexpected scene.

That was an awesome episode. How come a low budget SyFy TV show can make Doomsday look so cool, while the big budget BvS film version looked like a rejected cave troll design from the LOTR trilogy?

I was not a fan of the Albino Captain Jack Sparrow, err Lobo, this season though. So far the show has hit 2/3 on villains - Brainiac and Doomsday were great, while Lobo sucked horribly. I am not a huge fan of fanatic Zod either, but it works.

What a solid season overall. And an interesting ending, as it lays the groundwork for the Omega Men and more going into Season 3.

The writers definitely immersed themselves in the source material and lore, though they also followed their own path in developing new history for Krypton.

There will be no more Krypton on Syfy. The network has opted not to renew the Superman origin drama series, and the recent August 14 Season 2 finale was a series’ finale on the NBCUniversal cable network. With the mothership series getting canceled, Syfy also won’t be proceeding with the previously announced Lobo spinoff, which had been in development.

I hear Krypton producer Warner Horizon Scripted Television is in conversations with other outlets, exploring ways to continue the franchise based on DC characters elsewhere. Siblings DC Universe and the upcoming HBO Max streaming platform are considered the most logical options as DC content has been a focus for both. Past seasons of Krypton already run on DC Universe. Season 1 is currently streaming on DC Universe, with Season 2 coming in 2020.

Largely fueled by its Superman pedigree, Kryptonwas a breakout for Syfy when it launched its first season in March 2018. It scored the network’s most-watched debut season among total viewers for an original series since Ascension in 2014, and the most-watched season for any scripted series on the network since Defiance in 2015.

But Krypton’s ratings took a hit in Season 2, down about 50% in Live+Same Day. With series that come from outside studios – as was also the case with Expanse – Syfy has to rely solely on linear ratings to monetize a series, which is difficult for expensive shows likeKrypton and Expanse, which command high license fees but whose viewers tend to watch content on digital platforms. For instance, Syfy only has streaming rights to the five most recent episodes of Krypton.

Following its cancellation by Syfy, Expanse found a new home at Amazon, recently earning a renewal. That bodes well for Krypton.

Wow. That sucks. I thought Season 2 was better than Season 1. Hopefully this lands on the AT&T/Warner streaming service instead.

I actually think that SyFy is one of the channels that may disappear (or be acquired for pennies on the dollar) once the other networks do their streaming services. There is no need to send content their way once you have your own streaming play.

Krypton showrunner Cameron Welsh took to Twitter this morning to confirm for fans that the plans for the series' now-cancelled third season would have seen the story follow the events of a war between Rann and Thanagar, and that the Omega Men would have played a role. While that may have seemed obvious from watching the last few minutes of the Krypton season 2 finale, a significant number of fans assumed that the omega emblem on the outside of a cave meant that Darkseid was nearby, and that the winged figures flying overhead in that same scene were likely Parademons from Apokolips.

"Our show takes place in a fully realised DC Universe," series star Cameron Cuffe said last year. "The Justice League, The Omega Men, The Green Lantern Corps...these things are all very real in the world of our story."

Thanagar also presumably set up the appearance of Hawkwoman, who was supposed to appear along with Adam Strange in the show's first season but who was removed from it before it ever premiered because the show's short season orders made it difficult to introduce a lot of characters with heavy mythology.
