Really enjoy the newer Transformers.  Especially like the new Cyclonus and Scourge.  Of course had to add a few Sweeps as well

If any of you guys are Star Wars: Clone Wars fans and also fans of 6-inch Black Series figures, be on the lookout for four new figures releasing this week exclusively at Target that will definitely be gone within a few days.  They're set to go out on Sunday, but many stores are putting them out early or giving them to people who ask for them.  I picked up three of the four today below, and the fourth is a Clone Wars-style Obi-Wan shown in the second pic.  Oddly stores are putting them out in three different, seemingly-randomly selected parts of the store--sometimes in with the other Star Wars toys, sometimes in Electronics with the Funko Pops, and sometimes on a Father's Day display in the men's clothing section.

If they did a Hulk vs FF and Avengers on the skyscraper like the classic cover, I'd be buying.

It's been awhile since I last posted, some great pick-ups shared here! 

I was able to add a few pieces to my son's Batman figural prototype run. I'd originally been after the IDEAL 1966 Batman figure set (of 3 characters, Batman, Robin and Joker). The few times they showed up on Heritage, they seemed to either be missing the Joker or the tree. I think I noticed the tree on one of the Heritage listings but it was for the capes only. Now the tree wouldn't have ever been part of what was released for production, and these were usually discarded so it's a great added piece to have on any preproduction items because of the rarity of finding one that hadn't been discarded, and to further give legitimacy to how/where they were produced. So when these came up I had to snap them up because it was the complete set AND the seller ended-up finding the tree from the original warehouse where these were found (although I had to buy the tree as a separate purchase). So these were originally produced as a 3-figure set cast in an assortment of different coloured plastics, but unpainted (and I believe it included paints to decorate if desired) and a Batman/JLA playset, but in that playset they were factory painted, What was also cool about these first shots is they were shot with a non-production semi-translucent plastic, and what really grabbed my attention is the Batman cape and batarang were cast in clear plastic. I had never seen that before and it looked cool as hecking heck!

The other piece I added was a Boba Fett hardcopy for an unproduced ESB wave for the Star Wars Epic Force Boba Fett. Now the Epic Force Fett is part of the modern line (I believe 97/98) and I picked up a Canadian version in a large collection I acquired some years back. After getting it in that collection and really getting a close look at it, I was pretty impressed to how close that sculpt got to the screen accuracy, and it really left an impression that it was probably the most screen accurate Fett I owned in my collection. Here is a pic of the Canadian one still sealed.

So when the hardcopy was listed, I wondered what was different about it. The piece was in New Zealand and frankly I was surprised I got it for the price I did, however when it arrived and I compared it to the produced Star Wars epic force sculpt,I was blown away by what I discovered. Now for a little background and more context, I had missed ESB in the movies, it was not in the cards for me. So my exposure to the movie came through the comics and trading cards. I remember seeing the still of Fett especially at the Bespin Dinner table and wondering if they had widened his helmet, but later on as an adult I realized it was attributed to limited screen exposure (at least until ESB was released) and camera angles that allowed me to really notice the contrast. Except for the large scale action figure, I wondered why they hadn't kept to that wider helmet for greater screen accuracy in the vintage line, and even in the modern line.

Then I examine this hardcopy and I realize the scultptor saw what I had seen lacking for the longest time and knew right there that the piece was meant to be mine! To be clear, when the seller listed it, he never provided a full frontal view, so from the angle, it didn't look very different from the SW Epic Force sculpt, but when you have the two side-by-side, that's when you notice he really stayed true to the ESB look - longer rifle stock, different blaster, different pose as well (hard to really notice) so this was a completely different sculpt, and not just a repurposed one. Too bad it never made it to production. The only downside is it was missing one of the two rocket blasters, the rocket, and the antennae. I didn't want to open my Canadian sealed example so I went on feeBay and picked-up a sealed example. Took some castings of the missing bits, and made sure those parts were cast in a white resin so as not to mess with the originality of the piece. The gun scope was what the sculptor used (it's actually hollow white tubing). I also cast the base and a half mold for the rocket blaster just to display next to it. This was the first time I'd tried anything like this (casting parts) and it was quite the adventure. A bit of trial and error, had to do each part twice, and the antenea (the smallest and more complicated because of the intricate details) three times because every time I'd cast one, I stupidly mixed it in with the waste material, and if you know me, I hate having any clutter around. I couldn't believe how dumb that was, even writing about it now is reopening old wounds

I kept the lone hardcopy rocket blaster in a casted half mold, and the pins as well that original came with it to mount them. It's cast in the same white smooth-on urethane commonly used by one of the main agencies that did most of Kenner's sculpting for their vintage and (later Hasbro's) modern lines, but it wasn't from that agency. I managed to find out who the sculptor was, which is always good to know with any preproduction piece (i.e. provenance, and chain of custody).

They just might be my favourite pick-ups of the year.

Looks like you're wasting good silicone...  You need to make a smaller frame around your part for the pour. 

Doing this stuff yourself really adds to the appreciation for these sculptors and the process.

I did pick up Obi-Wan on Thursday by calling around and asking a store to hold it at Customer Service for me.  If anyone wants these but doesn't want to hunt by calling around or going in person then they MIGHT go up on their web site tonight between 1AM and 2AM EST.  Target's corporate headquarters is in Minneapolis which is in the Central time zone, so usually items with a set release date go up for sale on their web site shortly after midnight CST, usually no later than 1AM CST (which is 1AM to 2AM EST or 10PM to 11PM PST).  The few times I've stayed up to buy online I've seen items go live at pretty random times during that window.  Popular items often don't last long because Target limits online sales of exclusives because they prefer you go into stores to pick them up so you buy other stuff while you're there, but these are being shipped out to stores in pretty nice quantities of 1 to 3 cases with each case holding I think 6 figures.  Still I expect these to be gone from most stores at some point during the day on Sunday, perhaps very early on Sunday.  I know some areas have already sold all of theirs to early shoppers like me.

My Serpentor statue arrived a week or so ago. Maybe only my second statue. This one is plastic, but really good quality for the price (~$50). They make a few others, but I think this one looked the best.
