Umm...re-read my post and or the article to which it links. It's talking about an organized boycott of The Force Awakens, not The Last Jedi.

I revised my post. I meant both films were bad due to story/--script (especially weepy Vader knock off). TFA was just a New Hope rerun and TLJ was a sort of ESB knock off. The Phantom Menace had more originality in it.

Was Last Jedi this bad where RT had to purge so many accounts (if at all)?

I must have missed that. All I read was that RT announced TLJ scores showed no proof of tampering.

God, what a terrible movie that was. I get Nam flashbacks every time someone brings it up:ohnoez:

Bosco - Here's good coverage of the plot to derail The Last Jedi's audience scores: https://deadline.com/2017/12/star-wars-the-last-jedi-rotten-tomatoes-metacritic-imdb-users-cinemascore-posttrak-1202228837/

Main takeaway: Only trust audience scores from CinemaScore or PostTrack - as this is audience data collected in real-time via exit polls, vs. online polls that are subject to manipulation.

What a lesson learned for Hollywood. Though from that RT thread I started it is clear studios have been conducting their own manipulation to boost audience scores when it worked in their favor.

Reporting sites are so excited to support Captain Marvel due to the RT audience score attack they are posting articles with extensive details of what is in the film. Including surprise appearances, the Stan Lee tribute and even the credit scenes with no warnings of spoilers.

Just a heads up in case nobody is aware this is going on. I stopped reading them when I realized how much they were revealing.

Seriously though, really getting tired of Samuel L Jackson in virtually every single movie from the last several years....and not just Marvel related, he's in everything....he's an ok actor, Pulp Fiction was his best, but he's just over saturated.  Guy must be worth a billion by now.

Edit:  Here's his worth supposedly  https://wealthygorilla.com/samuel-l-jackson-net-worth/

Funny line in there, 'and he's known to be one of the best actors of all time'

Speaking as an angry old white guy, I loved the movie, and I thought Brie Larson held her own against Samuel L., who is one of the best scene stealers in the business. [Spoilers ahead.]

When she eventually grows into her powers, I finally understood why she is now touted as perhaps the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe, with nary a trace of absolute power absolutely corrupting.  I thought there were weaknesses - she overcomes the Supreme Intelligence far to easily, and what is so important about a FTL drive to an interstellar race who cross galaxies? But several right angles  takes us in unexpected directions which more than make up for the illogicalities. The right wing bandwagon attempting to trash it will fail.

Apparently:

1) He has the biggest box office total of any actor in history. (A title he took from Harrison Ford a few years ago.)

2) He has the record for the largest number of non-porn film credits of the 1990s (an average of 4-5 films per year for the entire decade).

All they need to do in the Endgame post-credit scene is show the tip of a silver surfboard coming around the moon and seeing Earth.

I was thinking something along the lines of hearing a deep, powerful voice coming from the shadows saying: "I hunger." Followed by a brief glimpse of the Surfer stepping into the light.

The old angry white dude is probably too busy watching Walking Tall on CMT. It's a shrinking demographic and probably not one that many movie companies are after these days.

Exactly. The studios just ignore it the same way they do the loud online fanboys.

'bordering' on trolling? The time to be coy about it is over - they need to realize they've been sabotaged. We're talking about a massive effort to use the internet to undermine someone's financial well-being. It's about time to call the FBI on these .

Yep.

Many white actors play the same guy in every movie - is anyone really convinced that Tom Cruise isn't the same guy regardless of if he's Jack Reacher or some sci-fi action hero? I'm not convinced Brad Pitt is anyone other than Brad Pitt in every movie I see him in - that's what people want in mainstream movies - a specific person they recognize and can relate to. Is RDJ's Tony Stark really all that different from what RDJ would play anywhere else?

Of course, Sam Jackson is black, and the people I hear complain about 'he plays the same guy in every movie' are generally older white dudes.

I'm assuming because this is a repeated attack on yet another Disney movie it must be pushing for some form of investigation. Especially since Star Wars and the MCU are such massive money-makers to The Mouse, including extensive merchandising.

No way it just lets this ride without action.

What violation would they be investigating?

If it purposeful disruption of commerce from an American business, I bet Disney lawyers can find motivations to encourage Fed involvement. Especially since the possible attackers made their motivations clear during The Last Jedi attacks.

Alt-Right Group Ruined 'The Last Jedi' Rotten Tomatoes Score Because It Was Too Feminist

Quote

Now an alt-right internet group named "Down with Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and Its Fanboys" has claimed responsibility for an organized attack of negative reviews in an attempt to...well, to make the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score low. A moderator for the group readily responded to a message from the HuffPost, and explained that the reason behind the attack stems from a growing dislike of the entire Star Wars franchise, particularly the introduction of more female characters. The moderator believes that men need to be “reinstated as rulers of society.”

“Did you not see everything that came out of Ghostbusters? That is why. I’m sick and tired of men being portrayed as insufficiently_thoughtful_persons. There was a time we ruled society and I want to see that again. That is why I voted for Donald Trump,” the moderator said.

Maybe some of the lawyers on the boards could chime in, but other than Disney using their Gazillion dollars to intimidate someone into stopping this sort of activity, I don't believe there was anything illegal done.

Not that I am some massive Disney fan that believes in all that it does as 'for the fans' (e.g. taking legal action against schools for painting cartoon characters on their walls), but if it is 'affecting commerce' there are actual laws about this. Though many times it is most probably about labor impacts and outside entities influencing workers.
