Greatest GOLDEN AGE Covers Poll, Round One

189 posts in this topic

So now that the magazine is out, can we finally talk about the results?

IKR! Whats the big hairy deal. Just release it already. I gotta start buying the winners (shrug)

Yes, where is the Cat when we need him since he should be out of jail by now. lol

He's probably got the jump ahead of you since he's clearly an insider and will be releasing the article here once he's finished picking up all of the chart toppers. ;)

I haven't commented because I'm of two minds about the article and one of them would rather be in the bar. :insane:

Feel free to discuss the article, ...the rankings of GA covers, ...the flamboyant biff!-bam!-blewy! design layout, ...the quality of paper the publisher used, ...whatever you fancy.

For now, I'm withholding judgment. :sumo:

Sounds as though you are not too happy about the way the article turned out. :(

Would it still be possible for you to post a link to this article so that we can take our own shots at it then. :wishluck:

Nothing to discuss if we don't have access to it in the first place. doh!

Wow, fast forward 20+ years to 2016 and how things have changed as both Detective 31 and Punch 12 have come out of nowhere to finished near the top of the charts, as per a post I had made a couple of months ago:

I am willing to place a bet that both 'Tec 31 and Punch 12 will end up being relatively high in the final results of the poll here. Certainly a far cry from the mid 90's when CBM ran an article asking readers to slect their Top 5 GA covers. They received a total of 35 submissions for a grand total of 175 possible selections from some prominent collectors at the time, and nobody except for one obviously unintelligent fool (i.e. namely yours truly) had picked either one of these books as one of their Top 5 covers. :o:flamed:

Interesting to note Batman's current popularity as evident by how the Detective books have risen, since the only other one to receive a vote back in '95 was 'Tec 35 which received only 1 vote, similar to my one vote for 'Tec 31.

Also interesting to note that Cap 3 is now apparently the greatest GA Cap cover when it didn't receive a single vote back in '95. Back then, it was all about Cap's 1, 7, and 74.

Wonder if there would be any "new" books rising to the top of the charts if we redo this survey 20 years from now, similar to 'Tec 31 and Punch 12 on this particular go round. hm

Hi everyone. To provide a little more context, here's the data ( n = 130).

The means reflect the average rankings (the lower the better).

Regarding the voting, Tec 31 was the clear winner. Suspense 3 was clearly the silver medalist. Fantastic 3 edged out Punch 12 for third. Fifth through twentieth was a tight race. We also provide the average ranking for the funny books that finished 21-40.
