a few more planets I was able to grab. The 70 and 72 are definitely nice prob 7.0 and 6.5 respectively and the 20 was just a nice presenting copy and another rivet off the list. I’m definitely hooked on these.

I am a big fan of 20. You don’t see this issue very often. The Dino/Pterodactyl is so cool. It is another great Zolnerowich cover in a long line of masterpieces (thumbsu

Planet 65. One of my favorites and a fun classic cover. About a 4.5 and hope to upgrade this one down the road before prices keep climbing.

Have another rivet i should have this week and I am super happy. I think it is a tough one, and has a strong color strike and page quality,

Just curious being that I am still new to planets. What is the overall consensus on which books are super tough. I know 14 and 15, but I just can never send to find a 2, 8, or 10, 13, 26 anywhere. Sorry if people already discussed this before.

Yeah I've been hunting Planets since 2010 and still need 1 7 and 15 and you showed up with two of the them in your first post here so you seem quite lucky to me.  I just tracked down 2 8 and 13 in the last year.  But I've randomly run into tough issues, like my 10 at a small shop, you never know what will turn up.  And that is one of the best aspects of it, IMO.  65 was my first issue and still a favorite.  Good luck on your searching.

Honestly, the majority of the first 30 or so issues are pretty tough.

In addition to your list, I would say 5, 6, 7, and 17.

Issue 7 doesn’t get mentioned as a hard one as often as some others, and I’ve only been going after Planets since last summer, but in that time I’ve seen fewer copies of 7 for sale than of 2, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, or 17.

You’re on fire though. Keep it up!

Planet 7 is tough - there are so many superb surrounding issues, it sometimes gets lost in the crowd. One of my favs...

This has been discussed before, but always fun to re-visit. As collectors, our opinions/perceptions of book difficulty are based on many factors .... amount of time collecting a run, amount of cons/comic shows attended, amount of $$ in pocket at particular times, relationships with dealers, time spent delving into the various auction houses offerings, and a little thing called luck.

I have collected Planets since 2006 and I mostly chase 8.0 or higher, but make note of any Planet I see in private hands or for sale / auction. To answer your question about which books are super tough, I broke the run down into 7 groups 1-9, 10-19, etc and have listed below the two most difficult books in that group of books that I have found in my time collected Planets. Now for clarification, this is most difficult not most expensive. Sometimes these two do not go hand in hand.

You may agree, you may disagree, but it should be fun “discussing” :foryou: if anyone wants to share any opinions.

1-9 Issues 6,8

10-19 Obviusly all are difficult and yes 13,14,and 15 are all equally tough so between the rest of the issues in this group it would be 10,19

20-29 Issues 20,24

30-39 Issues 30,38

40-49 Issues 40,47

50-59 Issues 51,54

60-73 Issues 61,72

I have much respect for Kelly’s viewpoint with a lot more longevity than mine. My perspective will Be from the last 5 years. I would say though, not too many people have bought (and sold) more Planets than I have in that period. Here are my unofficial findings, based solely on difficulty to acquire.

1-9- issue 8 is the toughest I believe followed by 2.

10-19- I believe 10 and 15 to be the toughest but 17 is pretty tough too. I’ve had many 13s. Love it.

20-29- 20 definitely and 29 in grade can be difficult

30-39- I agree that 30 is the toughest. I’ve not had trouble with 38.

40-49- 40 in grade is easily the toughest. I’ve not found any of the others to be that HTF

50-59- I would say none are extremely HTF but 52 and 54 can be harder in grade

60-73- I don’t think any of these are difficult in low grade but 65 and 66 are not offered much at 6.0 or higher.  72 was actually super easy for me to get for a while but lately been tougher.

These are my opinions.  A lot coincide with Kelly’s thoughts.

Just for clarification about my list. There are 14 books listed (2 per range). I am in no way saying these are the 14 most difficult Planets to locate/acquire. A list of the top most difficult Planets would be vastly different. I chose to make a list in a different way since I find that people collect Planets in an endless variety of ways. Some people collect parts of runs.... just rivers, Whitman covers, a long doolin cover run, and some complete their run with goals to complete a ten book spread (for example 50-60. Lots of ways to chip away at the 73 book monster or collect sub sets of the run. Rick is right, like he said for 50-59 none extremely hard to find.

I simply broke down in my opinion the two most difficult within the range specified.

Really intriguing to hear from someone who has been collecting Planets for that long.  The one that has stood out to me is 65.  Plenty pop up, but if you're looking for 8.0 or better, there's one 8.0 and one 8.5 on the census, and I'm not sure I know where they are, so I have to figure that's a pretty tough one when looking at high grade.  I feel like I've seen most of the others.

Thank you so much for putting this together and this really  helps. One day hope to upgrade to all 8.0 and above but right now sticking with the 4-5.0 range if I can on the rivets.

The one I want the most and toughest seems to be 10, I just can’t locate that one anywhere. Prob one of, if not my favorite run in the cover. I have been lucky to have knocked off some more rivets this week between the 10-20 category, and can’t wait to post them when I receive. Could not have done it without the help of rick.
