NOW, onto the overall performance of the Planets:

This adds up to a grand total of $697,511.

And to all a good night!

Thanks for doing that Zolne! Extraordinary divergence in hammer prices. Some have sold for scarcely more than non-ped copies in the same grade might have been expected to realize. On the other hand, a few went way past reason - #58 9.4 at $8200? [Not even an especially well presenting copy IMHO].

Is my impression correct that we are seeing those issues with the strongest covers [as well as the scarcest issues] across the run separate themselves further from the herd to a measurable extent regardless of actual grade? [Given they are all high grade copies, whether 8.5/9.0/9.2/9.6/9.8] . Not all of the super high grade copies have done as well. [#58 in 9.4 handily outdid #59 in 9.8, and while #58 has the better cover, #59 is a nice cover too.] It's almost as if the multiples factor [9.6=2x9.4, 9.8= 2x9.6 or whatever it is these days] has in many cases been offset against the Church top ped factor [say, 2.5 x non-ped values].

I wonder how some of the missing might have performed? #65, #66, #71, #72 in particular...? Maybe one day we'll get to solve 'The Case of the Missing Planets'.

Oh, and 'Uber bidder beaten out by brave boardies' is my headline of the day. Congrats boys!

I believe I have a sufficient amount of OCD to post a summary.

First, the success of us boardies is worth emphasizing! In numerical order:

#10 - Zolnerowich
#16 - Straw-Man
#17 - Ricksneatstuff
#30 - LordRahl
#33 - Ricksneatstuff
#34 - Ricksneatstuff
#39 - Ricksneatstuff
#49 - Zolnerowich
#50 - Bat34
#51 - Tim Weaver
#53 - Artboy99

Thus, out of 73 Planet issues, 15.1% of these are in the hands of boardies.

Perhaps a more relevant metric would be based on the total number of Church books that were up for auction. There were 14 missing/lost/misfiled Planet issues that didn't make it to the auction: 25, 37, 40, 41, 55, 57, 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 71, 72, 73.

So based on 59 available Church Planets, 18.6% are boardie-owned. That's nearly one-fifth of the books. Not a bad showing!

If I left anyone out, please let me know.

Thanks for doing this!   I won the 5 for completeness' sake.

38 and 69 here.  we need to kick up the boardie percentage.  @Artboy99 we were dueling it out for 53.  congrats on picking up that beauty.  ending up going hard on the 38 since i thought that was my last chance to get a mile high.  i didn't know i won 69 until after the auction was complete.  :headbang:  69 ended up being the cheapest mile high sold if i am looking at the numbers correctly.  congrats to all the boardies that picked up these bad boys.  i really wanted 70, but signal died while waiting for kids to finish gymnastics.

Nicely done! I was very surprised by the final price on 69, as I consider it to be a much better cover than 68.

Well Jay @Zolnerowich you can add a little more to the boardie percentage.  I didn’t want to pile on all in one night :foryou:

These are my last two

70 is another I was consideing going for, now I am glad I didn't!

That 56 is incredible. I love the black cover Planets, and it seems the rest of the boardies do as well since several of the black covers were purchased by the boards.

Congrats everyone!

I don't collect Planets, but enjoy stopping in from time to time to gaze. Had fun seeing the excitement last night in here, even for someone totally uninvolved, it was something!

If anyone needs to unload some Archie to pay their tab....just saying :p

Kidding aside, I hope you have them all by Christmas so your wives can put you out on the couch for insisting on taking comics to bed.

Well, I'm glad that someone here won the 56. I was high bidder for a while at least. When it hit $5k, I went inside so I wouldn't be tempted to go higher, because I was sure it was going to go a few thousand more. Congrats! You have a lovely book and I don't have to give up part of my home renovation project;)
