Just noticed this copy of Planet Comics 25 was recently added to WW’s website.  The same book recently sold on CL.  Apparently, in the process of deslabbing the book, the grade increased and the cover became reattached? (shrug)

I would trust at least a dozen boardies opinion on grade way more than CGC's.  What's on the upper left corner doesn't always make sense.

But if you notice it doesn't say the cover isn't attached but that the "staple" is still attached. Sly dogs

You're right! I just read it as the cover still being attached, but I guess that's not exactly what it says.

The grade being a little different is fine since grading is always at least partially subjective, the cover being detached or not is what bothered me more.

Planet 69 dual census entries for winter 1952 and winter 1953...can anyone confirm is this just typical CGC census sloppiness or was there a reprint of this one a year later or something?

Here is my copy:

And here is the Nic Cage copy dated the previous year:

Anyone have a raw copy?

Check the indicia for the date...

Out of town until Monday so I can’t check my raw copy but according to grand comics database and comic book plus it was published in winter 1952.  This fits given the publication dates of earlier and later issues. I would guess just CGC sloppiness.

It was probably on the stands (bi-monthly) in both December and January.... GOD BLESS...

Just checked any my copy says Winter 1953. So if the book was released in both December 1952 and January 1953, would the 1953 version have been printed later? Is that like a second printing?

That was kinda why I posed the question...I passed on a cheap Planet 69 in the marketplace because it was a winter 53 copy...

Maybe most people don’t care, and this was one of those instances where they changed plates halfway through the run to stick a later date on it... to make it look more current on the newsstands.

All things being equal is rather have the earlier dated copy... apologies winter 53 planet 69 owners.

Hang on guys. I really think there was only one pub date and release for Planet 69. It's a seasonal thing, ho ho ho.

The cover date of 69 simply reads "Winter". The indicia (inside the front cover) reads "Winter 1953". Assuming the book actually hit the stands in January or February of 1953, this would place the book in the Winter season spanning end of 1952 and start of 1953 (roughly Nov 1952 to Feb 1953).

As for Szavisca's copy with a CGC "date" of Winter 1952, that's just wrong. I'd bet good money the indicia would read Winter 1953. Maybe CGC did this to distinguish 69 from another "Winter" 1953 issue (#73, read on good Gentlemen!)

Here is a snapshot from GCD showing a Jan 1953 date stamp.

If you track the pub dates between #68-#73, it all makes chronological sense (based on info from GCD and Comic Book Plus):

68 - Fall 1952 (as per GCD, and its cover has a date stamp of September)
69 - Winter 1953 (i.e., Jan/Feb 1953)
70 - Spring 1953 (see GCD snapshot showing a May 1953 date stamp, below)
71 - Summer 1953
72 - Fall 1953
73 - "Winter" 1953, which presumably was released in Nov/Dec of 1953

So actually, there are two issues with "Winter 1953" pub dates in the indicia: 69 in Jan/Feb 1953 and 73 in Nov/Dec 1953.

Now, I'd be happy to be proven wrong, and if anyone has a copy of 69 where the actual indicia inside the front cover reads "Winter 1952", bring it on!

BTW, the last art panel of the last Planet Comic:

Kind of cryptic, eh? And kinda Tony Stark?

Spokane copies?

If I was a gazillionaire I would like to have the entire Planet Comics run complete via all the various pedigrees.

Have a couple of Church, a couple of Larson, a Billy Wright, a Spokane, etc. What a collection that would make...
