What are the record prices paid for non key GA?

34 posts in this topic

If Suspense 3 isn't a key then I don't know what is.

While many classic covers could be considered "keys" in a general sense that they are high demand, jewel of the collection, type books, I'm using it in the the traditional First Appearance/First Issue sense that the term originally referred to.

The king of the non-keys are:

Action Comics 10 CGC 9.0 ComicConnect 2011/08/09 $258,000.00

Detective Comics 33 CGC 9.2 ComicConnect 2011/08/09 $194,000.00

Suspense Comics 3 Penn CBCS 9.0 Heritage 2015/08/27 $173,275.00

But, an Action 7 should top them all. Check this out:

Action Comics 7 CGC 8.0 Heritage 2008/02/01 $143,400.00

Those are ALL keys in my book...

Not up at the level of most of these books, but $23,900 for the Spokane copy of Phantom Stranger 1 was a healthy price.

I can't think of a higher price for a pre-Showcase 4 1950s DC.

Weird Mysteries 5 17.9k in 8.0, Target Comics v1 no#7 $77k in 9.6, Mystery Men 1 39.4k in 9.2, CAC 3 50k in 9.2 (though this might be considered a key), Exciting Comics 39 19k in 9.2.

If you are referring to the HA sale way back in 2003 for Target #7, the actual price was $57.5K. :gossip:

Unless there was a subsequent sale for $77K which I am not aware of. Still, a very impressive result, considering the top of guide for the book at that time was only $6,400. (thumbs u

Nah. GPA has a June 2014 sale for $77 250. Not sure of venue.

That is certainly interesting and good to know! (thumbs u

Any idea if this is the same Church copy that sold back in 2003 for $57.5K? Does the CGC census indicate there is more than one 9.6 copy of Target #7? ???

The Church Fantastic 3 could possibly challenge the Suspense 3.

.... I think the FC 3 would eclipse the Suspense 3 by a healthy margin 2c GOD BLESS...

Wonder if this copy would go for more than the Startling 49 that sold for about $101K, considering how much hotter the GA market is today as compared to 2014? hm

Especially since a Target 7 is so much harder to track down as compared to a Startling 49. (shrug)

I can shed some light on the Church Target 7. I bought that book as part of a trade/cash multi-book deal from Verzyl in 2013. I like the fact that you compared the Target 7 to Startling 49, lou, because in that deal I also acquired the "other" 9.6 Startling 49.

Looks like you've got excellent taste in books as you have both the Church Target 7 along with the other 9.6 copy of Startling Comics #49. :o(thumbs u

Especially since your previous posts also indicates that you have a copy of Terrific #5 which you managed to pick up from Verzyl. Would this be the Crowley copy or possibly another pedigree copy since it would appear that your taste runs towards the uber high grades? hm

Looks like you are definitely going for the high grades if your books are pedigree copies and in the 9.6 to 9.4 condition range. And it also looks like you are focusing in on the classic covers if you have Target 7, Startling 49, and Terrific 5 as key parts of your collection. :cloud9:

Definitely a smart strategy since pedigree high grade copies of GA classic cover books should continue to outperform the rest of the market. (thumbs u
