Can you guess why you probably shouldn't buy this "Jack Kirby" piece?

I don't know what to think about this one... Fake or rushed to the extrem limit ?

I would vote for the second option, but...

Your opinions ?

I dunno, my hunch is real and real rushed.  And as to "Who says I'm bad?", well, uh, I do.

I agree. With this kind of sample (or the rollerball point one), we're very close to the frontier of appreciation...

Just pmd the seller on eBay to let them know the authenticity of the piece was being discussed here. High 100% feedback for what it’s worth. When I was a kid a collector neighbor showed me something similar Kirby had drawn for him (the Thing) so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s real. Caveat emptor!

The curiosity of the week :

I don't see why Alex Toth would have bothered to color a blantant (printed !!!) rip-off of a Byrne sketch (and change his signature)... but the mighty COA is always right !

Original sketch coming from "The Art of John Byrne" art book :

Found this in my collection.  Not sure when/where I got it.  I’m highly skeptical of the signature. Thoughts.

There are three on Ebay - all different signatures, and different numbered editions than yours. I don't know why there would be so many variations - but I would definitely be suspect of it.

As a guy who thinks a lot about how to tell if Kirby is real I have zero opinion about pretty much any signature unless I know the page passed through Jack. I don't think it's a secret that Roz signed for him frequently, and as an associate of his said once, "the easiest thing about Kirby to imitate is his signature." Hats off if you can tell - I can't, unless there's something egregious going on.

What do you think of this "Byrne" ?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/225423630113

At first, I told myself : "fake".

Next : "elaborate fake".

And then : "possibly penciled by Byrne as a comm and inked by an amateur ("+" signature at botton right) but the lack of pencils traces in the hair bothers me"

Maybe if someone of the board has bought the page in the meantime, he will give me his opinion ! (I wouldn't have bought anyway :-)

As far as I can tell, these seem to be pieces of art by Jack Kirby - maybe - but to anyone who saw these and hoped that the whole "artist unknown" thing might mean you get a bargain....I mean, again, maybe?

Check out what else he's sold, beginning with the splash to Amazing Fantasy 15: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134925086925?itmmeta=01HQ6D5G8Z55SQ93ZBY9TNNWH2&hash=item1f6a2970cd:g:M4UAAOSw-dRluc0x

Which he has sold twice so far.

Also he has two published feedbacks, one of which says the bidder never received the item.

But hey, it's entirely possible I'm just a simpering ninny and you will be massively rewarded.

Doesn't say it's original art (and it's not posted in the OA section) and doesn't say it's a poster/print.  Doesn't even say what size it is.  LOC might even have scans on-line that anyone could print on their own.  Sold for $ 478.  Starting bid at $ 400.  Not sure who the 4 bidders would've been.  Ugh.

I have looked at these multiple times over the last couple days lol.  The feedback rating alone is a no go for me but it is very enticing.  The photos seem to look like real art, but most likely if you win, it would never be sent.  I find it pretty hard to say you don't know who the artist is since a simple google search of "OMAC series artists" pulls up Kirby's name on the first result.

"Artist Unknown" lol

Maybe it's a page recreation, and the artist is truly unknown?
