Can you guess why you probably shouldn't buy this "Jack Kirby" piece?

Take a peek at any one of them or all of them....it's painfully obvious.

Halfway through the guy even stopped trying to forge Jack's signature and went with 3rd grade printing of the name.

Then after the BIG. 'Signed and Sealed' in the auction title he tosses in this "please don't call the cops...." exculpatory language on all of them.

"This item has limited provenance, it doesnt have any documentation or cerfication, Sold "as is" to the manner or style of the artist"

In many states you can pay couple hundred bucks to legally change your name to "Jack Kirby" . So it is possible that the art comes from a Jack Kirby but not the person you have in mind. hm

Now that's called dedication.  The John Dillinger of comic OA forgery.  : >

That last statement is ridiculous!!!  The item has "limited provenance"??  What the hell does that mean???  You either have provenance or you don't!

There's NO "documentation or cerfication" - what the hell does "cerfication" mean??  Surfication???? You're certified to surf?

All of these are designed to deceive  :sumo:

I'd at least have a little respect if the "artist" chose to sign his or her real name...

I've had a couple of people tell me they had excitedly stumbled over what they thought was Kirby art in an "obscure" auction house, and they thought they'd gotten a bargain. This is a PSA for you: that doesn't happen. You should know that if an auctioneer is on the internet, it's not obscure. Collectors and dealers subscribe to key word searches so that there is approximately zero chance of a legit piece of comic book artwork popping up without getting bid up accordingly. (I can think of one exception - if it's ineptedly described. So keep hunting and keep dreaming but as Casey Kasem used to say, Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.)

Shorter version: auction houses in Lima, Peru are the Nigerian Prince of Jack Kirby art. Each one of these is a tracing of an existing piece of Kirby art.  I am once again fascinated by the nonsensical stamps they put on the back to make them seem real.

Perfectly right.

What's horrible too is the fact these "auction houses" are the providers for Ebay sellers, some honests, some dishonests, who "relay" these fake in others countries.

I'm "hunting" these ones in my country.

Recently, I found an honest one, who understood quickly he had bought fakes and retired all his ads with apologies (and regrets losing several hundreds dollars buying them).

This other one seems to fall into the "dishonest" category :

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/Dessin-Original-Jack-Kirby-Marvel-DC-Comics/164287338011?hash=item264049d61b:g:juEAAOSwa31fC0UV

Several people like me tried to tell him he was selling fakes, but he continues... In one of his ads, he even told everybody his drawings were genuine...

I'm going to tell him (again) that the original is this one :

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/bf/05/85/bf05852debdccf271392f0af8185a600.jpg

... but I'm not sure he will listen. He previously tried to sell this "Ditko"...

Oh, no...

Just discovered the one I thought was honest was not, after all...

He's selling another fake, after I showed him the 2 previous one were fake sending him the original versions...

It's a real desease...

Theses fakes spread almost as fast as COVID-19...

Have you guys considered that these tracings have a sort of charming innocence? I only ask you to consider, whose dream are you crushing with all this negativity?

Well, if they were at least signed with their real name, completed with the "After Jack Kirby" mention and a (fixed) price of 10 $, we could talk about "charming innocence" IMHO...

This is not.

By the way, the false Ditkos have been terminated... At least we can thanks Ebay for that.

Very sad, today... Ebay termination system seems on holidays and that's a shame...

The same crook from Ebay got another prey yesterday night :

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/164338456551

s-l1600.jpg

(I sent Ebay the wonderful video showing the King drawing the original one as a proof - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ckt_yZAWFk - , and gave them even the time mark were the drawing is shown clearly enough to see this Ebay item is a lame copy... Despite my efforts last week, the prey got caught...)

If someone can explain to me why the Ebay service didn't take an action this time, I would be glad to hear it...

Each time the crook catch a prey, he is encouraged to shop again in Peru...

I always found Jack’s voice so soothing, sometimes I’ll listen to some of his old interviews even though I’ve heard the many times.

Oy.

Thanks for contacting them. You're a good person for doing that. Not shocked that eBay did nothing - the surprise is that those Diktos were removed.  (I mis-typed that, but I think the misspelling is apt. From now all all fake Ditkos are Diktos to me.)

How about a companion thread on Bruce Timm’s work? Apart from his agent, Moy, it’s all suspect.

Well, I will have to try again this week, because the crook already put the replacement piece on sale...

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/164349821917

(copy of this one - https://townsquare.media/site/622/files/2012/08/warriors3-1010.jpg - took me 30 seconds to find the original...)

Any help would be appreciated (the voice of several persons will maybe help to decide Ebay to do something...).

I'm still hope to kill the beast's eggs.

And here's a rare one that is sorta legit but comes with a big fat asterisk that the seller isn't mentioning. Does anyone want to play our home game and explain why you don't want to buy this?*  https://www.comicartfans.com/ForSaleDetails.asp?ArtId=5134785

*Unless you want something that's real but that's not Jack Kirby art.

DING DING! Get that man a stat of Jack's cigar. This cover, though it is not mentioned in the description, is inks only. Kirby didn't touch it.

Kirby penciled a cover that Marvel didn't reject...but didn't like the composition of... so someone in the bullpen redrew parts of it - apparently still not satisfying the art department - so Adkins lightboxed the pencils, which are still in the gallery of the lovely and talented Harry Mendryk: https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=144809

Wow, check out the weaselly description as well:

"Jack's Final & Published Cover art - All original hand-drawn artwork & original logo."

Boy is it misleading.
