Afternoon :)

1,086 APVs now, due to a punnet of pleasing Punishers. Well, the 2099 version of him:

pun2099.PNG.f0282bd08062541fd59218608da50048.PNG

Note that #3 is the only AUS July 1993 book still priced at $1.80.

Numbers 1 to 10 are in the bag, 11 should exist but 12 may not due to the 'only three titles found with April 1994 cover dates' phenomenomenomenom. Nothing after 12 expected, as the title is over by the time AUS phase II kicks in.

So, one more to go. Maybe two. Time will tell William....

Here's Lennon's Number 9:

Nice boots! (on him, not her) :)

Another eBay seller just dropped some Australian price variants, including some Conan magazines.  @Get Marwood & I, I don't know if you posted the full list of those magazines, so I'm not sure if any of these are new or if you already had them documented.

Savage Sword of Conan #207, 208, 213

Also listed were Spectacular Spider-man #204 and 205 and a Wolverine/Punisher Damaging Evidence #1, all three of which were already listed out.

Thank you Masterlogan. All added to the pot.

Here's the current Marvel magazine summary - I've only found two - both Conan titles:

conan.thumb.PNG.27aa4139c185c71917c511f8d2547006.PNG

Conan Saga has a theoretical AUS issue range of #43 to 82 (40 issues) and the Savage Sword of Conan's range, also 40 issues, is #178 to 217.

Here are the current confirmed numbers:

  • Conan Saga: 43-49, 52, 55, 57-73, 75, 78-81 (30 issues confirmed)
  • Savage Sword of Conan: 178, 180, 182-183, 185, 187, 192, 195-197, 199-200, 202-204, 207-210, 212-216 (25 confirmed issues)

All issues start from (AUS) January 1991 and are priced at $3.40, rising to $3.60 in (AUS) June/July 1993. Conan Saga #75 is priced at $6.50.

All issues exist in the first wave of AUS copies only, as both titles cease prior to the second wave starting. All therefore have cover months three months later than the US copies, as is the case with the standard size comics.

As it stands, I see no reason to assume that we will not find all 80 books in time.

Afternoon :)

I spotted this Spider-Man (1990) #71 hiding in a bulk ebay listing that I've probably glossed over about fifty times:

71.jpg.a8048e1ebbed01ee5e45690835824faf.jpg

It brings that title up to a whopping eight copies out of a possible 50. Not a popular title down under it seems...

So we're on 1,087 confirmed AUS copies, spread over 95 titles. I haven't added a new title for a long time. In my research, I always add a page to my spreadsheets which shows the titles for which the variant type in question has yet to yield a variant copy.

In the case of the AUS date range, I gave up doing that when it became clear just how many there are. Here's an extract just for the first AUS cover month of Jan 1991:

ausno.thumb.PNG.d21d4e49f4cff838eac64d96a5e010cc.PNG

You can see why I gave up...Easier to just capture what does appear.

There are some odd titles on the as yet 'no AUS copy' list - titles and characters that perhaps you would expect would have had the treatment. Given recent input to the thread about the history of AUS copies, I wonder who got to decide what titles did and did not get produced?

As things progress, I can see where AUS copies are unlikely to appear for those titles that do have some copies in the date range. The gaps often tell a convincing story. But as for whether every titles has been captured - that could take some time to get a definitive handle on.

It's something to do isn't it.

Morning Aussies :)

A busy morning on the APV front - first up, a new title courtesy of our collector friend Bill, who lurks in the Australian shadows - Incredible Hulk Annual - yee-flippin-haw! :headbang:

Here's #19, $4.75 AUS price:

19.jpg.7b13f78cbca35672b232e14b3a864ca5.jpg

This means we now have seven (Len Goodman) confirmed annual titles and 96 confirmed titles overall. It also means I have to update my Journal summary in Morlar's Pence Palace of Doom which currently reads:

"Only six Annual titles have been found so far – Amazing Spider-Man #27, The Punisher #6, The Mighty Thor #18, The Uncanny X-Men #17, X-Factor #8 and X-Men #2. All are 1993 annuals and all have an AUS cover price of $4.75"

I'll get around to that later.

So we're up to 1,096 confirmed copies overall, excluding magazines, and only four measly copies off of a round 1,100.  You are liking the mathematicia, no? countvoncount.gif.cea5f99258348e138f7b6b9fadeefd4e.gif

340364485_aus1096.thumb.PNG.c687a6ff3120848d4d31a80dff08340a.PNG

Someone posted a swathe of Iron Mans today, and filled a long standing gap. Only 276 and 300 missing for that title now, if we assume that only first wave copies exist. For a second, I thought there were two different 290's but it's that pesky foil again isn't it, scanning all dark and mysterious:

290b.thumb.jpg.839e370a3018ee25cdca79302e4682a2.jpg  290c.thumb.jpg.7d902fa1576e109027207094cad5da85.jpg

And I added X-Men Unlimited #1 to the pot after a long wait:

1.thumb.jpg.510d7b3de9fda6b470e9ca78027550ab.jpg

Possibly only one more to go on that title too, if it's a first wave only title:

xmunlim.PNG.01ce79b3ca7e281b99a9a5fb75c8eac5.PNG

Finally, a nice write up from Ben here over at Wordpress Towers, well worth a read if this stuff interests you:

Who knew you could know so much about APVs, eh?

All good fun :)

There's something about filling in these missing gaps that is just soooo satisfying, right?

I'll say. Even image upgrades are cause for mild celebration lately. I really need to get a life :)

Another new title to add - Iron Man (1996 Series). Here's #1:

1.thumb.jpg.30c858335d7c4a7aa711475da040142f.jpg

Being a second wave November 1996 issue, it just sneaks in, and is priced the same as it's other 1996 Series #1 cousins, The Fantastic Four, Elektra, The Avengers....:

97 titles, 1,097 books confirmed.

Cheeoow!  :)

Hello.  Is there an easy way to determine what issues you need a cover or a better cover for your project? Glad to share what I have if needed.

Hello redsox :)

The up to date list of confirmed copies is here:

If you have a book not on that list, I'd love to see a copy posted here if you can.

Cheers :)

Sorry I meant would you like fo have better cover scans to replace some crappy pics you may have from ebay and such? I just wasnt sure what you needed for your project.  And will certainly continue to send anything else found not on your list as in previous.

Cheers - I'll check the image files over the weekend. There are a few where the price isn't clear.

Busted through the 1,100 mark finally...

Morning APV Collectors of the World  :)

I've updated the list with all the new finds and we are now up to 1,121 confirmed APV's across 98 titles.

Here's the recently added Captain America (1996 Series):

1121.thumb.PNG.0e9baf964db5286c7d0af3056e0750ff.PNG

For magazines, we're on 61 confirmed copies for the only two known titles:

ausmags.thumb.PNG.9a48a6b8c3c44ea0ee77bd778f90cdd7.PNG

I have found no magazines for the phase II dates, and the first wave dates remain in line with the regular comic sized books. If that holds true, there will be a maximum of 80 magazines in total.

There seem to be more sellers than ever listing AUS copies on ebay now, possibly as a result of the greater awareness of them. This thread itself, though not particularly heavily posted in / commented on, has seen over 23K views:

aus23641.thumb.PNG.0dfbdccc459699dadae4cb1fa70f68be.PNG

Some of the prices the books are now going for do not impress me at all, and suggest rampant speculation similar to that which we see for later Marvel newsstand copies. That's a shame really, as the books are not finding their true worth through bidding competition as they should. My approach has always been to document what exists and, in respect of AUS copies, I do appear to be the only person who has ever attempted a full title / issue list (although a few others have documented appearances, key dates and such like). For the record, I don't collect them, so I'm not making any money out of them.

I'll keep going and will continue to publish the known copy list here and over in my journal.

Some titles are beginning to fill up nicely now and I'll soon be able to confirm them as 'complete'. That assumes my date assumptions are correct of course. If you think about it, I have collected over 1,100 images. Not one of them breaks the date range that I have documented. So that gives some faith that it is probably concrete.

Here's a few recent additions:

60.thumb.jpg.d3528ed5c54ade7c56ac91244d75137c.jpg 64.thumb.jpg.7587e3811092b9e5d1ac05face01b9ad.jpg

All good fun :headbang:
