Afternoon :)

I posted some of William Shatner's Tekworlds a while back - you could see they were AUS copies, but they were too blurry to make out the prices so I listed them as $TBC.

A helpful seller just listed them all, along with a previously unseen #6 which brings us up to 1,279 :)

They're all AUS $2.65 by the way:

tek.thumb.PNG.64689a98af2b51f654ed6effe577260c.PNG

Number 5 was missing last time too, so maybe that's a scarce one.

I was in Australia and stumbled across an asm359 Aussie variant, NM+. Unfortunately it was in the dealer’s “good” box behind the regular boxes and he knew what he had...but for a brief moment I had hope. That’s my only Aussie variant story...

I just found this topic.  I came across it accidentally and I love it.  Anyway, here you go.

Spec.SM #233a (n).jpg

That's a nice one, thanks Eric! :)

Our 1,280th confirmed Australian Price Variant.

Only three to go for that title now:

ssm.PNG.52c554fa9b2fea827207a2bc79208baa.PNG

Although #208 may not exist being an AUS April 1994 dated issue, leaving just 232 and 239.

And I still don't have a decent enough image of #240 to make out the AUS price!

Getting there though....

Thanks again.

Here's my old copy:

Morning fellow Quarantiners :)

I was only mentioning to Nestor @nesqrick2 the other day how quiet the AUS copies had gone when up this morning popped a bushel of Barbies - one Barbie standard and two Fashions:

4.thumb.jpg.8bfec8b0641f91bc0e9be13812871ee4.jpg 4.thumb.jpg.f23a5f3b372ee2282f11786ad104178d.jpg 5.thumb.jpg.42eb68bf733abd2f83fc39df635835e1.jpg

That brings us up to 1,283 now.

I do like a Barbie, especially the Fashion ones which are quite scarce and right in line with my own fashion sense (often referred to as Catweazle meets Doctor Who with a dash of Deckard).

I've update the journal page with the latest numbers for those of you that give a hoot:

I'd imagine I'm going to have quite a bit of spare time on my hands over the coming weeks so might do some more variant posting to keep you all on the edge of suicide entertained.

See ya :)

That's a great find, just to show there are more AUS issues out there to find.   :headbang:

Indeed. I've been working through the list to see if I can pick off any of the remaining copies that could exist based on the cover date range. Not too much success so far. I may have done or indeed posted this before, but I rechecked the AUS April 1994 range today (the final first wave AUS issues which have Jan 1993 US cover dates). There are only 4 confirmed AUS copies of 48 current contenders (Cap #423, Ravage 2099 #14, Spidey 2099 #15 and Web of Spidey #108). I checked Mikes Comic Newsstand to see if all those copies had, say, early or the same 'on sale' dates. Not an exact science of course given the 3 month shipping window to Australia, but it could indicate the cut off point at the US printers if all 4 were early and the remaining 44 were late in the month. That theory has worked elsewhere in my variant research (Charlton Canadians for example). 3 of them have on sale dates of the 2nd of the month, the other the 9th. The other 44 are mixed, dated mostly later in the month, but include some 2nd and 9ths. So that anecdotally at least indicates that there may be other April 94 AUS copies out there. So I'll keep looking.

Four more Barbie Fashions swell the pot to 1,287 confirmed copies :)

Give her a click and she'll get bigger.

Looking at the spreadsheet this week I'm starting to see where the gaps will likely end up permanent / by design. I don't think there are that many AUS copies left to find now really - almost certainly nowhere near the 1,703 theoretical maximum.

We shall see....

Here's a really timely and fun fact I learned just yesterday:  Mike's Amazing World of Comics uses the dates that the Direct Editions went on sale, not the Newsstand edition's on-sale date.  The Newsstand editions always went on sale after the Direct Edition did; usually 3-4 weeks after during the 80's, but there aren't records of Newsstand Edition on-sale dates past 1988.

Well, I guess that was three facts. :)  Just thought that info might be helpful since AVPs are Newsstand editions.  (Also, Mike's specialty are DC comics.)  Enjoy.

Cheers Eric, I didn't know that - where did you hear it?

Mikes site is a fabulous resource but I would never use any aspect of it to state definitive proof of anything in my research - it's only ever indicative.

Morning :)

Sensational Spider-Man #3 brings us up to 1,288 confirmed AUS copies:

3.thumb.jpg.c4cfea1feeeb992b7f7b92669cc252bd.jpg

Only issues one and two are currently absent to complete the title set:

aus1288.thumb.PNG.f1f0b09925953ce4a3f4a87e55596f03.PNG

Issue #3 is slightly unusual for the title in as much as it's only cover difference is the price:

AUS Copy:

560187065_3AUSCrop1.PNG.3142f1a71bbace2e4fa37e771c6742a1.PNG 1994679235_3AUSCrop2.PNG.5c0e1a82ac646e9696ae65a5ac9c5d2a.PNG

US Newsstand Copy:

776012675_3USCrop1.PNG.3003bdb1286243e7ab33608d615728e9.PNG1693489878_3USCrop2.PNG.7c00710198b2919f89868fb0b873ba3f.PNG

The barcodes are the same for both AUS and US Newsstand copies. For issues #4-10, the AUS copy has the unique AUS priced barcode - example below:

5.thumb.jpg.acd5f9291222ca9b71ad3eed348d7b61.jpg

Incidentally, the US Newsstand #3's indicia makes no mention of AUS pricing, as is standard:

1134331946_3USCrop3.thumb.PNG.9ba7f5b774545f37fa0703bc8b47b42a.PNG

I wonder if 1&2 will ever turn up....

See ya.

This one has been a long time coming - Fantastic Four #370:

370.thumb.jpg.d82123c0a2e60ffe6397c4b91f8e7285.jpg

I'm as confident as I can be that issue #374 is the last AUS priced copy, so #370 completes the set for the title:

ff30b.thumb.PNG.b780c433994bd4d171095901deb03196.PNG

And it brings us up to 1,289 confirmed AUS copies overall:

ff30.thumb.PNG.aa9e9ddee752e4660e009ba3b519cb48.PNG

All good fun :)

Another one that's been in hiding for quite a while - The Savage Sword of Conan #179 ($3.40 AUS cover price):

179.jpg.8ce46ba7010354dc0363cab5e4fa78e5.jpg

That completes the title if we assume that issue #217 doesn't exist (being an AUS April 1994 cover date).

For the three Conan magazines with AUS Price Variants, two titles are complete now and one - Conan Saga - needs only six more issues to be confirmed for the set:

ausmag.thumb.PNG.3a622c36c6eedaeddadf77f62b3ecfd5.PNG

We'll soon have this crushed...
