Let's Guess the Cover Artist (s)

10 posts in this topic

In a recent thread there was a discussion as to whether or not Feldstein worked on the Phantom Lady #17 cover. Although this is debatable, it certainly gave validity to the idea that we could potentially determine who the artist was by analyzing their previous work. So post your books that don't have an Overstreet or CGC cover artist designation and see if the CGC community can make an educated guess as to who penciled these beautiful covers: (thumbs u

This one has been said to be a group effort but has no CGC accounting on the label

Most dealers with a copy to sell will tell you it's Baker. :D

I think at one time Overstreet might have listed it as Baker and there might be some CGC copies that list Baker on the label. hm

Consensus these days is that it's not Baker. Apparently, the Iger shop artists often tried to ape Baker. A firm attribution at this point probably won't happen.

Edited to add: I took a look through the HA archives and I couldn't find a CGC copy with the Baker attribution. Heritage does routinely credit the cover to Baker in its auction descriptions, though.

Could be difficult given that some covers were collaborations or were the result of artists attempting to copy the style of other artists.

Good point. Is there a list of GA artists and which companies / titles they worked on? This could potentially make the guess work a little less daunting. Also, could there be a large list of unknown cover imitating artists working on these titles, or is it just a matter of trying to distinguish between the known ones?

Most likely Warren Kremer.

How about this one? Again, no information on the CGC label:

Grand Comics Database and Howard Keltner's index are both online resources
