All characters evolve. Different names/costumes are significant changes and if those changes make Flash #1 and AA #16 less desirable to some, so be it.

But if that's the logic used to weaken interest, that same logic should apply to all characters. Difference/change = decrease in desirability.

Batman is drastically different from "The Bat-Man" as written and illustrated in Tec #27 and throughout the Pre-Robin Tec run. Only in that case, drastic change seems to have little to no impact on desirability.

If the perspective then is: "Significant change is 100% acceptable so long as the names/costumes remain similar", again, so be it.

But I don't think the depth of that logic is strong enough to outweigh well-studied collector's perspectives.

What is the NG? Repro cover?

It is  a repro cover...it's a coverless copy that once belonged to the comic historian Ron Goulart.

I was hoping to pickup a cover that just sold on eBay, but got beat by around $100.

Would love to pick up a cover but I know that's going to be tough.

Still a really cool piece. You must be a pretty big fan of this book to have 2 copies.

Sure, characters will evolve and change over the years.  

But the likes of the GA Flash and Green Lantern were summarily abandoned by their publishers for new creations and character identities, and it is those characters that have subsequently changed and evolved, but have ultimately survived the test of time and become ingrained in pop culture.

I think the first 2 Flashs are equally important and the edge goes to Flash Comics #1 as being the long term winner.  Without the original there would be no Silver Age version.  The Flash's Hiatus was only 5 1/2 years, (December 13th 1950  -  July 5th 1956) and from his book's numbering, team ups, and modern appearances, they've done a great job of keeping them linked and relevant through the years.

Comparing the 2 original Flashs reminds me of a similar comparison discussion :

Both matured into excellence in their #2s and are generally regarded as the "favorite", but wouldn't exist without the originality of the first. 

I'd guess the highest value collectibles/props are from a New Hope over Empire.

That's an interesting analogy. Typically, earliest incarnations gather the most collecting interest. Would you rather have a Babe Ruth rookie card or a card from his best professional season?

Flash 1 has always been a favorite of mine. The silver age flash started my comic book reading obsession and when I first read

issue 123 and found out about the golden age flash, I knew that one day I would own a copy of the first issue.

Idk if it's a rookie card or not, but I've always liked this one.  Maybe someday when I run out of GA books to collect.

when the dust settles on this Justice League movie, the Flash will be in really good shape and Wonder Woman was in pretty damn good shape going in.   The Lantern may be feeling good he sat it out. The standalone Flash film will likely continue through production and introduce a wider audience to a character has already done really well on television and with millennials.  Right now, the book is somewhere in the ballpark of 20k per CG point and I think has a lot of upside there over time as the character may suit modern audiences more than other prominent heroes in the League for a variety of reasons, but that's debatable of course.

$41k seems to reflect the rarity of this issue, so I'm happy to see that.
