Another Leaked Audition Tape For SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING 2 Teases A European Gwen Stacy

Peter Parker's love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming was Liz Allen/Toomes, the daughter of The Vulture. Moving into the sequel, it initially appeared as if that role could be given to Michelle (a.k.a. MJ "to her friends") but a recent audition video pointed to Gwen Stacy showing up in the wall-crawler's world. However, Marvel Studios will seemingly be taking the character in a very unexpected direction.

As you may recall, the last audition video which leaked online pointed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Gwen Stacy being a foreign exchange student and now the latest - which features European actress Iris Haller - appears to reinforce that belief. It would make sense for Peter to find himself pining after the new girl in school and this change is actually pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

'Spider-Man 2' Working Title Revealed

Quote

The working title for Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel has been revealed as "Fall of George." Omega Underground broke the news. The sequel's working title comes after Homecoming went into development under the name "Summer of George" — named in honor of a 1997 episode of Seinfeld.

*UNTITLED SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING SEQUEL (FALL OF GEORGE)*

STATUS: JUNE 2018

LOCATION: ATLANTA

DIRECTOR: JON WATTS

The currently untitled Spider-Man 2 will shoot in Atlanta, Georgia, with returning Homecoming director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland.

Spider-Man's doomed love interest, Gwen Stacy, is rumored to take part in the sequel, set once again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Newer evidence suggests Gwen will be re-imagined as a foreign exchange student. The running gag of Marvel's Spider-Man movies taking up temporary names in honor of the iconic sitcom was confirmed by co-producer Eric Carroll, who revealed a Seinfeld cast member was originally considered for a cameo.

"We pick code names that make us giggle. Around that time in L.A., there was the channel that showed the Seinfeld reruns from 10 to 11 pm, and we all started coming in the next day and talking about Seinfeld," Carroll said. "And when we had to pick a code name for this, 'Summer of George' was one [suggestion] that made us all laugh the hardest."

New Marvel Trademark Filing Could Hint at Big Plans for Spider-Man Universe Character

spider-verse-1068920-640x320.jpeg

Quote

Marvel has filed six separate trademarks for the character Ghost-Spider, better known as Spider-Gwen. This character is the Gwen Stacy of Earth-65, an Earth in which it was Gwen who received spider-powers instead of Peter Parker. She’s known in-universe as Spider-Woman, but her ongoing comic book series is titled Spider-Gwen. The new Ghost-Spider name was introduced when the Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors animated project was announced.

The new name is likely to help her branding. The Spider-Woman moniker is already used by Jessica Drew in the Marvel Universe and having her series and other product be labeled Spider-Gwen could be confusing since that isn’t the character’s actual name. Ghost-Spider provides a new name that can be used in all situation.

As noted by Bleeding Cool, who first spotted the trademark filings, there is no filing for comic book series, which seems to suggest that the character’s comic book series will continue to be titled Spider-Gwen.

It Sounds Like The Wall-Crawler Will Swing Into Europe For The SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Quote

The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is slowly starting to take shape and with pre-production reportedly underway, it's now being reported that shooting will start on May 28th. It's important to note that nothing has been confirmed but it makes sense giving the sequel's 2019 release date.

Even more interesting, though, is the fact that the signs are all pointing to Peter Parker heading overseas. We'd heard that shooting might take place in Germany but the UK is said to be another likely location and that could tell us an awful lot about this movie. After all, audition tapes for Gwen Stacy have shown European actresses trying out for the role so rather than her being a foreign exchange student, it could be that Peter ends up spending a semester abroad as he enters his junior year.

That would give him some space from Aunt May (who knows he's Spider-Man now) and once again puts the hero in unfamiliar surroundings. Homecoming showed him in Queens as opposed to Manhattan and now it seems the sequel will also allow him to swing through some new locations.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel Reportedly Casting A New "Femme Fatale" Female Lead

Quote

Some recently leaked audition videos seemingly confirmed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel would introduce a European take on Gwen Stacy, but now our friends over at That Hashtag Show have provided a very interesting casting update, which - provided the description is even about the same character - could suggest that the film will be taking an even bigger liberty with the classic Spidey heroine.

According to them, the sequel is searching for "an International European in her 20's" to play a new "femme fatale female lead." That certainly doesn't sound like the Gwen we know from the comics, but of course, this could be a different character altogether.

Is there a chance Felicia Hardy/Black Cat or Silver Sable might be introduced here ahead of their upcoming spinoff?

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Sequel: New Details Hint At Femme Fatale Character's Identity

An updated description for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel's femme fatale hints at a "Bond-girl type" character, as reported by That Hashtag Show.

The character, who is still yet to be revealed, will be a "Bond-girl type international agent," with the studio seeking a European actress in her 20s to play the role.

That Hashtag Show broke the news in January, describing the femme fatale as "a mysterious European young lady that will likely lead [Spider-Man] into danger."

Speculation pointed to Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. the Black Cat, an anti-hero and sometimes criminal once among Spider-Man's lovers in the Marvel comics.

Other likely candidates include Silver Sable, real name Silver Sablinova, a mercenary hailing from the fictional Eastern European country Symkaria, and Jessica Drew, who was once also an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is better known as Spider-Woman.

Homecoming Headlines Videos SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel Casting Call Provides New Details On The Movie's Villain And More

Quote

We've already heard that Marvel Studios is looking for a femme fatale and two agents who will be working with her for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel but now That Hashtag Show has revealed some very interesting details about the movie's villain. While the site is unable to reveal the character's identity, they do know that the -script is calling for a baddie with "elevated ideas" and the studio is open to auditioning actors of any ethnicity and gender which is definitely an interesting/unexpected twist.

There have obviously been male and female versions of Doctor Octopus and the fact that Marvel is looking for actors who are 30 - 45 may lend some weight to that theory. That's all it is for now, though, and this could literally be any character from the Spider-Man mythos so we'll have to wait and see.

It's also revealed that Marvel is looking for an 18 - 24-year-old male lead of any ethnicity to play a high school student with leading man qualities who can hold his own with Tom Holland.
