Reasons to sell a book from your collection

39 posts in this topic

Looking for a list of reasons that people sell a particular book from their collection...

(How do people choose to sell one book instead of another?)

Here's what I have so far...

Duplicate

Unacceptable Grade

Not Sure Why I Even Have It

Re-evaluating Collection

No Longer a Focus Area

Unfinished/Abandoned Set

Nice Profit vs Original Cost

Recent Spike in Prices

Bad Association With Book

Disappointing Investment

Painful to Sell, but Necessary

Completely Liquidating

More than one of these can apply to the same book. Any others?

Also - Discussion of reasons to buy/keep a book:

Those are some of my favorite indie-rock bands.

I always preferred "Pressable Crease" and "Golden Age Headlights"

Sometimes you need to raise funds for a 'better' book.

I try to keep my collection self-funded, so if a couple of books have to go, to obtain one I want more, then there is that.

If I find a better copy to replace this book in my collection, then yes I will sell the undercopy. That is how I mange my comic budget. If I have some books which I brought long ago, but then interest on them is fading. That, I will sell to raise funds towards the books I want specific to my collection.

Sometimes I buy books with intention of flipping them later ... yeah, part of my purpose to fund my personal collection to gain better books. That is about as basic I do in there.

Did I miss the option that says there's no reason to sell a book from your collection? Comics are like stray pets... if you bring one into your life, you give them a good home and keep them until they die!

Wait, that's not right...

I like the way you think. :applause:

Re-read the series, and it doesn't stand the test of time. Cerebus.

Grew out of it. Mad Magazine.

Realized they were reprints. Marvel Tales / Marvel Super-Heroes (most of the series).

Letter from Anton LeVey. Tomb of Dracula.
