Move the eBay ads to the bottom
0

Question

They take up valuable real estate at the top of the page. When viewing a page while scrolled all the way up, there is exactly zero content actually displayed, only the giant black banner, a social media banner, the giant ad area, and the giant announcement area. It's too much wasted space. Moving the ads would alleviate some of this at least.

Arch, is there a financial reason not to do this?  The first screen of any page anywhere in the forums is taken up in half (on a desktop) or in full (on a phone) by the top banner and that dumb banner ad.  Do they give the Collector's Society a bigger monetary kickback the further up in the HTML it is, or does placement on the page not matter with regards to advertising revenue?

This was done sometime last week.

Ebay ad moved to the bottom, ComicLink/Heritage ad added in place of the old ebay ad.  Screen real estate on every single page still pushed down unnecessarily by about two inches.   :makepoint:

Ads are fine, but ads that make the design worse are not.  (tsk)

Ads are unlikely to be eliminated. The money for those spots helps fund a portion of the community tools. They are directly customers of CGC, so their relevance is better than randomized eBay ads. We can't sideline them so that people don't look at them or they won't be doing their job.

"Unnecessarily" isn't quite on target for the situation.

Might want to pre-screen some of the add material here.

Both of these eBay links are from the bottom of the boards.

Second one I've seen this week like this:

That's not possible--those ads are coming straight from eBay.  Do they allow stuff like this to be sold on their site?

No :eyeroll:

What's with the eye-roll?  I barely use ebay, for all I know they let people sell Playboys.  If that's true eBay will take care of it by removing the item after someone reports it.
