I was going though a box of MJI in my collection and found a nice stack of Fourth World book.  Feel free to add these to your spreadsheet.

The thing about these inserts is you don't ever know if a comic with the insert exists or not.  There no definitive catalogue of which comics had them or not.  Makes the search more interesting but also makes it even more frustrating as well.

Jim

It's all about the "weight" . . .

Thanks.  I've added the info to the database.   It makes sense that Kamandi 36 has the blue 88.   I had not seen that one until your post.  The publisher was not always precise on keeping inserts the same by cover date.   For Kamandi 36, the blue 88 insert bled over from the previous month, where most DC issues contained the blue 88 insert.

Approximately 4 months ago, I was missing approximately 76 jeweler inserts out of a possible 692 comic books that could contain the insert in the titles of Batman, Detective, Superman, Action and Justice League of America.  Since that time, I asked approximately 400 different sellers on ebay to see if they had any comic books with Mark Jewelers inserts.   I found that approximately 3 out of 4 sellers would respond to my questions.   After expending this effort, I found 4 sellers that had jeweler variants on hand.   Of those 4 sellers, I found 4 Mark Jeweler inserts that I did not already have in my collection.

There are lots of Mark Jeweler variants for sale on ebay in the five titles I collect, but my point is that these Jeweler variants can be REALLY hard to find when you get down to the last 10% or so of the missing ones.  Of course I realize that this pursuit is pure insanity.

If anyone else out there is collecting these variants of DC comics, I would love to hear about your experience, and I would more than gladly help fill in holes in your collection with my spares if you would help me find the onnes that are missing from my collection.  Just send me a Private Message on this website if you are interested.

Update:

Of the 5 titles I'm collecting (Batman, Detective, Superman, Action and Justice League of America), I think that 692 issues could contain the jeweler insert.   I have 630 of those issues in hand and there are 32 other issues that I know contain the insert but I don't yet have in my collection.

Of the 692 possible issues, I have found 96% of them.   Remaining are 30 issues for which no one to my knowledge has ever seen to contain the insert.

If you collect these inserts in DC comics, please feel free to send me a PM to compare notes.

Approximately 5 months later, I have found 640 issues in those titles.   Remaining are 27 issues that should contain the insert but I have not yet found them.  At this rate, it will be several years before I find them all.  I suspect there are some issues where they never included an insert.

First:  Here’s the Mark Jeweler variants that “should” exist but I have never seen in the 5 titles I’ve been aggressively trying to collect.   If anyone has any of these, I sure would love to hear about it:

Action  448, 516, 523, 524, 533, 579, 580,  581

Batman  245, 324, 326, 376, 390

Detective  470, 518, 548, 564

Superman 347, 352, 359, 361, 370, 413

Justice League of America  107, 125, 161, 195

For whatever it is worth, you can’t trust the list of jewelers shown in the MyComicShop database.   Many moons ago, they only listed the jeweler variants they had seen themselves (and I made note of it at the time).   About 2 or 3  years ago, they just assumed that every comic book in a certain date range contained the insert, so they listed everything.  For example, we have never seen a jeweler insert in a square-bound giant comic book, but MyComicShop lists Batman 254 thru 260 as “not in stock” jeweler variants.   Batman issues 254 thru 260 are all 100-page giants and I can pretty much guarantee that you will never see a jeweler insert in that type of comic book.

Finally, here’s a list of all jeweler variants that have been found in those five titles (sorry about the super long text;  I just used cut-and-paste from my database, and I'm too lazy to put these all one one line!  zzz

Great! This makes it easier for those of us that have an interest in checking our collections. (thumbsu

Update:   Thanks to some recent additions from billbrown7080 I've been above to find all but 25 of the 692 possible jeweler variants of Batman, Detective, Superman, Action and JLA.   If anyone has a listing of these variants in those titles, I would love to hear about it.

Update:   After a few months of questioning sellers on ebay (and the German ebay), I've been able to find all but 21 of the 692 possible jeweler variants of Batman, Detective, Superman, Action and JLA. I have all but 14 of the ones that I know exist for those 5 titles. I've graphed the numbers of these that I've found over the years, and it appears as if I will eventually find all but 10 of the 692 possible variants.  I'm think there's approximately 10 comics that should have contained the insert but never got it.  A good example would be JLA 195.  I found a string of JLA comics from one place, and all the JLA issues contained the insert except issue 195 (it even had the AAFES star on it but no insert).

If anyone has a listing of these variants in those titles, I would love to hear about it.

Following is an updated list of Mark Jeweler variants that “should” exist in the five titles I collect but I have not yet found.  Out of 692 jeweler variants that should exist, I have found all but 19 of them (I and I am only missing 13 of the 673 known jeweler variants in those 5 titles that I collected).  I friend of mine has 5 of those 13 that I still don't have in my collection, but he doesn't seem willing to sell them at any price.

Jeweler variants that "should" exist but not yet found:

Action  516, 524, 533, 579, 580, 581

Batman  245, 324, 326, 390

Detective  470, 548, 564

Superman 359, 361, 413

Justice League of America  107, 161, 195

Well, I'm hoping my buddy eventually cracks and sells those 5 that I need.  I'm thinking of offering him $500 for the set of 5.   I will send you PM with my entire want list.

You don't want all 19?  Unless it was cost prohibitive I couldn't stop just 6 shy.

lol.  Perhaps my count is confusing.  Here's the summary:

1.  692 jewelers should exist in those 5 titles (Batman, TEC, Superman, Action and JLA)

2.  I know at least 673 of the possible 692 jeweler variants in those 5 titles have been found or seen before.   That leaves 19 that I have yet to find (see list above for those 19)

3.  Of the 673 known jeweler variants, I have 660 in my collection (all but 11 of them are at least vgFN or better... most VF and above)

4.  Of the 13 that I still don't have in my collection, a friend of mine has 5 of those in hand (and he won't sell no matter what I offer).

5.  Thus, I'm missing 32 total jeweler variants of the 692 that should exist (less than 5 percent)
