And welcome, in the end. :)

Especially for “insanely costly” books.

I am usually bullish, but realistically speaking so many books were already inflated and over valued that a "flattening" of the comic curve was pretty much inevitable, in this sense the virus may just be the contingent cause of something long overdue. I do think that there will be a contraction of a sort when this is done. The bullish assumption is that when the crisis passes there will be an orgy of consumption to make up for the enforced restrictions on lifestyle and spending. However, just as likely, is the conclusion that savings and liquidity matter, and the average consumer might conclude that it makes more sense to emphasise savings over consumption, given recent experience, and the chance of it happening again. Here in Canada, the big banks and the analysts have been warning for years about growing "household debt" and the tendency to live beyond our means, this may be a "scared straight" moment for the average consumer and cause a privileging of savings over spending.

That said, as for comics specifically, its worth remembering that our current crazy inflationary spiral started with the last economic crisis, and our hobby in particular is driven less by market sense than nostalgia, sentiment and the addiction inherent in being a collector. (I plead guilty to all three) That should blunt some of the consequences, but I would still look at the very minimum for a plateauing of prices and some more dramatic corrections on some specific books. 2c

Thank goodness I love my comics all the same-with some favourites of course, but that's never influenced by money, more by the fact they were gifts et all.

I can't appreciate them if I think of them as x $$$ amount-knowing the price of some I likely paid very little for twenty five, thirty years ago just makes me nervous.

Has anyone else noticed mail is slower than normal?Affecting you at all in Montreal Robert? For some reason everything I ever get from belle province always takes forever....like faster than Texas and it's a two hour drive tabernak

My incoming has trickled, so can't say for sure its slower locally, but I'm sorry to hear we are usually slower on the give and take, maybe its the result of the end of the Hockey season...the Habs... they are on ice, so to speak...so morale here is way down, once you take away the Habs, people here got no reason to go on.... lol

I am in the same place with this. Here where I live, Montreal, and province wide now, the pressure is on to stay at home with the only exceptions being genuine necessities...food, medicine, and families only are permitted to congregate outside for walks and fresh air, but other kinds of gatherings in public are now forbidden, and the police have been empowered to intervene if you are contravening the regulations. Individuals can still go out to otherwise lawfully open businesses, and that includes the PO, so I still have a free right to access it as necessary. But responsibly speaking, in the current environment it is hard to justify as "essential" or "necessary" going out to the PO to mail some books. Its one thing if your livelihood depends upon it as business, and certainly online sales and shipping is still both permitted and necessary for businesses, but this is not a livelihood for me, and I am lucky to still have a job that I can do, as my College is shifting to online "distance" learning to complete the semester.

This is a real dilemma for me, and while I have made private arrangements with my two existing customers, I have been reluctant to bump my sales thread to seek new sales and therefore new obligations. I am considering adopting a "deferred" system where purchases reserve book(s) but both payment and shipping are deferred to a future date. There would be no obligation to pay until I was in a position to promptly ship. Obviously once the new rules were posted a potential buyer could make an informed decision about whether it was still worth it for them to buy or not, if they don't want to wait for books they of course don't have to buy. I would be interested in any feedback on this, and what others are thinking about the general situation.

Stay safe 😷

We now have 10 cases where I live and some in the surrounding areas. No place is safe I suppose. Even have cases where I work.

We are up to five identified in my little town.  More all around.

Stay safe buddy.

In response to the threat of COVID-19 and the possible dangers of public, post office traffic... I have decided to forgo any sales for the next few weeks.

My last trip to the post office was this morning for the foreseeable future due to cases popping up in our area.

Just seems incredibly risky to get out right now for reasons other than necessities.

Wondering if any of my fellow sellers here feel the same... or is it business as usual concerning mail order, post office visits, etc?

There are no cases yet in my county, so it is business as usual.  Now, if I only had customers....., :eyeroll:

We have 17 cases in Greene County, and one reported death so far.  Johnson City, which is a hop and a skip up the road, has around 21 cases as of last night.

We had a number of students at Tusculum College located here go on Spring Break in Florida... now I think around 7 of them have contracted the virus.  This is probably

one of the reasons we are in a higher bracket here (in relation to surrounding small towns).

People here are trying to social distance (before the "try to stay-at-home" directive)… but I drove by Lowe's on Monday and it was PACKED.

No one needs to weatherproof their patios that badly do they? (shrug):screwy:

Local "essential businesses" here are taking to Facebook and telling people if they need something to "come get it, but if you want to "shop", just stay home or we will ask you to leave".

I've taken to rearranging the garage and trying to make more room for 300+ boxes of damn comic books... so I'm keeping busy and staying home.

On a side note, I did finally separate the 30+ boxes of Playboy's, Penthouse, Gallery and High Society and I'll get you an itemized list as soon as I get it typed up*

You aren't as young as you used to be Liz, these mags will cause a man your age to go blind ;).

In all seriousness though, you stay safe up there buddy. ;)

* DISCLAIMER - While the 30+ boxes of mags do exist... Liz has not shown the slightest bit of interest in them and everything stated above about him being a porn connoisseur is fake news.

There must be a happy medium for thread titles, somewhere between "nothing special" and "Keys! Keys! Amazing! Tonight only!"

When I post a sales thread I look at the books and think, "amazing!" Then everyone else looks at them and thinks, "nothing special." So, for my purposes, both thread titles work!

Out of curiosity, if I ever decide to break up my high grade full run of Vampire Tales and decide to sell them individually, who would be interested and by which issues?

Give a heads up in the Magazine forum and I'm sure you'll garner interest.

I thought you already sold those once?

One of the problems these days, between movie and speculator hype, is that almost everything is now considered a key. :eyeroll:
