Steve have you tried a reverse search in Google images to see if anything matches?

Yup.

Nowt.

Cool isn't it - no cover price (unless it's a decent photoshop)

And it's not in the GCD either (but you already knew that).

For all the those here who appreciate pence copies. Added another pence priced book to my collection recently...

Cor! Will you be going for the other five? Nice pence set that would be :cloud9:

Evening all :)

This lovely looking 9d Rawhide Kid was sitting on eBay at 99p all week.

I couldn't leave him sitting there at that price, despite having owned and sold a copy already this year. With 7 seconds to go I upped my bid to £4.49, sensing someone else would surely dive in. The under bidder - as it turned out - did indeed bid, but dived in one second earlier than me at £4.44. So I won for the sake of 5p - not far off what it originally cost in 63! Marvellous

Very nice comic indeed Steve. It's not a genre I ever collected, being a SciFi and War fan as a child, but on the rare occasions that I visit eBay these it's not surprising that I missed it. If I'd've seen any SA comic at 99p I would've had a pop. I used to spend an hour or so on eBay every day browsing but since they improved the experience changed the search criteria so that it's hopeless to navigate I visit far fewer times and do not spend the time with each visit that I used to do.

It's a lovely looking title, Rawhide Kid around this era. The huge red and black title wording, spread the full width of the cover. Striking. Then the circle with the unnecessarily small 9d price, the month-less box with the issue number. So simple, comparatively crudely created by today's whizzy standards, and yet so utterly enticing.

Comics were absolutely great back in the day weren't they...

Yes they were.

Incidentally after the X-Man no 1 that we were discussing last week, (the one which went for £2661) there was another, much nicer looking copy that went for £2300ish a few days ago. Still too much for me of course but IMHO the purchaser got an absolutely glorious bargain.

They have made it rather difficult lately haven't they Stephen. I feel like I'm missing a lot of things

I didn't check the second one out. Probably won't be able to find it now. More chance of finding it in the sold listings if I type in "dog pot yoghurt" than "X-Men #1" nowadays...

I know this one has been posted previously but there is another My Girl Pearl #7 pence copy for sale on eBay UK. Despite considering myself a Marvel "completist" I haven't got a single issue of this title, cents or pence, but with half a page cut out I'll have to give this one a miss. Shame.

Here's an oddity I recently noticed whilst looking at my DD issues; #12 pence copy has utilised the 12c price to become the issue number and has the price where the cents copy has the issue number. This wasn't continued into #13 as UK issues started including the month and would only have worked if the price had been 13c.

Some of these back page ads are so funny. Learn to be a nurse in only 10 weeks. From home.:roflmao:

And the asking price of £35 + pp is more than the Fine (6.0) guide price of $39. For a comic that's Fair!

That's only the second copy I've ever seen Gary. Ridiculously scarce book. Given it's condition, the seller has priced it rather 'aggressively' but it looks like they price all their comics at £35 so perhaps they're not experts! Hit and hope

I think these books are great examples of the ultra scarce comic that nobody wants (but you and me). I could find a thousand AF15's before I found another one of these.

Still, it's appearance supports my theory that the other copies weren't pencified* - two number 7's now, no number 8 to 11's (it's all wrapped up in the bold cents font scenario you see...)

Oh that's a brilliant spot Gary - love it!

I had a quick file check and couldn't find another example like it. Very quick thinking from the printer there :golfclap:

I picked this up at the London Fair yesterday in the half price box. I needed it for the files (image upgrade) but was also taken by the amount of effort the owner put into his labelling!

It has no real value of course but isn't it lovely when you see a book that is over 40 years old still looking so fresh and clean.

All good fun :)

Afternoon :)

Here's a list of the first 20 confirmed Marvel pence priced variants which I put together a while ago whilst investigating indicias. They go in alpha order by title where there are multiples in the same month of course - GW#58 and JIM #58 are joint first etc

Capture.PNG.75611ae411ddf0f31c61813f321fc844.PNG

I have a few myself happily, and may go for the full set in the new year. It's something to do isn't it :)

I've been looking for a nice JIM#58 to add to the 'top 20' pile for a while now - I thought this one might be it but, alas, it had a page missing:

I have got these though:

13 down, 7 to go...

Hello again :)

I picked up this copy of the oddly elusive Marvel Classics Comics #32 pence edition as I needed a better image for the files:

32.thumb.jpg.efa2addbe0495347b3c4bb0d2313673e.jpg

I like how it has an advert for itself on the back cover - cents copy of course :)

32.thumb.jpg.cb077e60bc5c8ae824fbe3f54005f218.jpg

It's one of those odd pence titles - 36 possible copies in total - 30 pence copies have been located so far:

 32b.PNG.ee7d4d18d465d3ec0b047a92b11f95aa.PNG

Note how, being a big boy, it completely disregards the regular size issue price changes, sticking stubbornly to 20p for it's whole pence run.

There are no numbers 1-4 and then 5 appears, crudely amended as follows:

32c.jpg.6d6c67cf9724a07f6f8504be385f3698.jpg

No number 6, then 7 also appears with the crude overprint (50c price still visible if you look closely):

32d.jpg.1a3b1e312c72e982c42d5d83053717a4.jpg

No number 8 and then we're off with a full pence run from Lennon's number 9 up to the last issue in the series (36):

Number 9 has a 'proper' plate changed price, but with an odd looking pence font - the two and the zero don't seem to match:

32g.jpg.de5aa8d46aa06b147843f11ef111a15b.jpg

It also has a Curtis Circulation 'CC' which continues to appear on issues 10, 11 and 12.

From number 13, Curtis disappears and we get a new, more consistent looking pence font:

32h.jpg.d68822d3c9c4a7ac65b16776a298691d.jpg

It may be the last of the Mohicans, but it's not the last we see of Curtis who returns briefly on issues 17 and 18, never to appear again:

32f.jpg.18dcabe338ff09b218738d4a64ec1a4a.jpg

Nice title :)

You have a weary look, on your face. As if you've ended up in the wrong place. Happy, you say so. I would guess not though.
