I know it's been posted before but just picked up this one on E-Bay UK for the grand sum of £6.71 including postage. For that tidy sum I also got Archie #111 (pence copy) and the remnants of A Date With Millie #4 (Cents, split spine, two pages missing, brittle, tape etc etc)

:applause:

You wouldn't believe how many variations of Patsy and Hedy I have preprogrammed into ebay. Did it notify me? Did it b:censored:s!

Seriously, well done Gary - only the second copy I've ever seen. And the Archie #111 is a known pence copy too (see my Archie thread)

So that's two #71's now. Never seen a #70 in hand...

That low grade G+ got £2,600.... and this beauty above raised only £2,300. Mad game. Gutted I didn't see it.

Yep. ebay is a lottery lately. I've found the search engine to be extremely unreliable. Exact searches, even in in parentheses, often fail to bring up lots which include the exact phrase typed. I wonder whether some of these books go under the radar sometimes?

Then again, having bought and sold on ebay since 2003, I'm continually amazed by the extreme variances in sale prices for comparable items. It all depends who is watching, in what numbers, and at what time. Total lottery....

Absolutely. They screwed it up big time lumping everything into one category. It's hardwork now sifting through drek in search of the actual goods. There's some real geniuses that work at that place, eBay.

Slipped my radar. It had 710 views but no longer shows the watch count. About ten unique bidders. Truly crazy. Looks 5.5 all day. Five grand book. Less than half price.

Really can't believe it would sell for £300 less than this.

I'll drop the guys a line about it and, hopefully, it won't happen to anyone else :wishluck:

Matt has confirmed that the above was a labelling error and he has flagged it to the grading team so it shouldn't happen again :headbang:

I too watched both those auctions and when the first one went for £2600 I expected the second to hit £3500 ish, As Marwood says EBay is a bit of a lottery these days since they "improved" things. Still, both issues were far too expensive for my meagre pocket. One can only dream about winning the actual lottery.

Been skiving at work, filling in some gaps in my research & stumbled across this

944244061_tta16noprice.thumb.jpg.0dcb4bd0d111be73ee046a5afd2d6dc7.jpg1511619017_tta16npinicia.thumb.jpg.11d2f7bb1163cd347c360487075e860f.jpg

TTA 16 & 17 are the only two pence copies I've never clapped eyes on. Don't know if I'm repeating info that's listed elsewhere on the threads, but this #16 (from ebay back in July from a US dealer) has no price. A quick squint at the indicia shows the "Thorpe & Porter" line.

Marwood? Do you know about this? I'm guessing you do & I've just missed it, but you never know...

Evening Rakehell. A quick search shows that this went for only $51 on the 12th of July this year. Someone got a bargain I reckon (it wasn't you perchance?). If I'd seen this I would have had a pop even with the quoted $14.25 int postage it's a steal.

Marwood has shown us examples in the past of this no price phenemenon but I cannot recall if he showed us the T&P indicia.

Not guilty. Though if I'd seen it at the time, I might have fought you for it.

I thought I'd seen it, but I've been out of the loop for a bit. Plus I'm 50, so brain sleeeeeepy.

Good spot Tiffany!

It's a cool book isn't it, the no price version. I've seen about five examples since it was first brought to my attention.

There are 4 versions of TTA #16 that I am aware of:

16.jpg.84684365159b02989907923989dbe4b8.jpg  901658276_TalestoAstonish16NoPrice.thumb.jpg.392e7abd06b1d9b918569735f2ce1ccd.jpg  1915361796_TalestoAstonish16Short10c.thumb.jpg.b5f503c7601b37c66e05f580030e4591.jpg  1562179220_TalestoAstonish16Tall10c.thumb.jpg.a706704df0075adac7d71a667215ac0f.jpg

9d Pence Copy                            No Price Copy                             10c Short Font Copy                     10c Tall Font Copy

The book falls into the Jan 61 ~ Apr 61 indicia slot. If you look at the table below, you'll see that all Marvels - cents or pence - which have a confirmed pence copy have a T&P UK indicia:

440462376_Period4.thumb.PNG.8d851f52441dd545f7ab910baa811806.PNG

Where there is no pence copy, the US cents indicia has no T&P line, so this is a further way of finalising whether a pence copy is likely to be hiding for any of the unconfirmed titles.

I have images of the TTA #16 indicias for both US 10c font types, and the no price type and they all have the T&P indicia. Funnily enough, the only one I have yet to confirm is the 9d pence copy, but it's fairly likely that it will have it (unless it does a JIM #67). More on that here if you're interested:

There are some great books hiding around this era, with lots of variations and quirks to look out for. I hope to gather all four TTA#16's at some point:

It's something to do isn't it :)

Cheers Alice!

I knew your research was bound to include this. Also, since I've seen your scan, I can fill in a box on my very own spreadsheet. :cloud9:

Have you got a scan of TTA 17 in pence? The only other two pence variants I've never actually seen are Where Monsters Dwell 28 & 29. Wherever it is those monsters are dwelling, they ain't saying.

TTA  #17 is very uncommon, and I've only seen one in hand (which I should have bought). I have two examples in the files.

The first has a cool Miller ticket attached - I'd love to have one like that:

17.jpg.fca3c04b223cfeffcf34b1dc872e2efa.jpg

And the second proves it's real:

17b.png.c0fc6ffaabb55ba4c2166f4c424ef4c0.png

As for WMD #28 & 29, if you find their hiding place you've cracked it:

wmd.PNG.284966d67957a674b704ee38dc8e658a.PNG

They land in a recognised pence gap, so are 99.9% certain not to exist:

"No pence copies have been found for comics cover dated April 1974 to July 1974 inclusive. This 4 issue gap coincides with the transition from 6p to 7p"

But I always favour the 0.1 me, so....

Absolutely. I get myself in a stupid frenzy bidding on a copy of a minor key I chase and when it was done I was at $150. A few weeks later I won a better copy for $40. Both were high feedback sellers. The difference was tbe $150 guy had a bunch of the same genre and title and a bunch of us dorked out. The other guy had some of this and some of that.
