What I would like to know is how those devils at Thorpe and Porter supplanted L. Miller and became the official U.K. distributors of all those Silver Age books a few years later, with those big smudged pence stamps and everything.

I sense a Phd thesis coming on...

Miller managed 3 years on Charlton Golders! Pop over to Silver, look for doctors and nurses, and you can read all about it :headbang:

well, quite clearly not the Ginger.  Can't have that in a family publication. It says its "A top quality Comic" right there on the cover!

Just look at her! She clearly sent in the money to amaze her friends and  "Learn to play the Piano".  Next project is "Drawing the Pirate".  So far every pirate looks a lot like reptisaurous but she'll get it eventually. The scholarship is waiting.

Still no official Marvel Millers to report, so while we wait here's another Miller stamped IW book - Frontier Romances #1

fr1.thumb.jpg.5079b4f747381e6accbe46b3a633a52e.jpg

Yee-haaar! :headbang:

A nice little bit of kissy-kissy going on on the cover which is quite unlike the cover of the original 1949 Avon book, although only in style. There's kissy-kissy on that too.

Miller's Moniker appears:

fr1crop.jpg.b404241f6d782050290380d9cfbfee36.jpg

But no internal additional indicia details (although it does rather cheekily say that 'no part may be reproduced without permission' - I hope they themselves got it!). I really ought to stop looking now - there are no IW Miller variants! (famous last words....:wishluck:)

As well as some kissy-kissy, we also have some assy-slappy:

fr1icrop.jpg.11ccff6de6d531c158c4a6486f41d2ab.jpg

Hmmmm. No wonder the innocent were seduced....hm

Here's the full page - at least she gets her own back:

fr1i.thumb.jpg.24864f1dd2681c868af3c658333fdfa9.jpg

I think that legislation's days are numbered myself.

No more posts here from me now, until a Marvel Miller surfaces :)

No matter.

After a brief interlude of Miller Stamped Miscellany it's time to get back to the thread's purpose - plotting the Miller marvels. Here's TGK #56 to help us do just that:

So what can I say but 'Wyatt Earp #29' - where are you?

Here's the full TGK #56 interior. See ya! :)

Decided I didn't like the customised stickers in the mylites (see previous posts), so have opted for a temporary tomb instead while I make my mind up:

Hi Steve.

I think those labels are a great idea.

I'm not sure about showing the front cover when we can already see it but the label of the interior indicias is a great idea as it identifies the comic as a Miller variant without having to open the bag and comic. I'm not convinced that the spreadsheet label adds anything to the front cover, maybe on the back?

I have to say once again that your skills in organising the photos into nice sets and of making spreadsheets leaves me in awe.

Cheers Stephen. It's not as hard as it looks, once you get the hang of it. I agree about the labels - the spreadsheet ones are temporary until I make my mind up. If I drop down dead, I want whoever finds them to know they're special (thumbsu

This is my copy of Gunsmoke Western #64, at first glance appears to be the ultra rare 6B price variant

I've looked at the others on your list and my copies are either cents issues (GSW and RK) or I haven't got them at all (TGK, WY). I've had TGK #58 on my wants list for many years, although it pops up regularly in USA I can't bring myself to pay the postage on it - I've never seen a copy from UK.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for posting this - it is one of the Miller indicia variants so we have 16 confirmed now of a possible 22:

1941073804_Summary1.9.thumb.PNG.87855d56608f821ad8f9fdd4780199d7.PNG

Just to clarify based on my understanding of your post, the Miller variants are identified by the distribution wording at the foot of the indicia on the inside front cover. If you look at your GW #64 indicia again you'll see the 'Exclusively printed...' wording:

Capture.PNG.79080accb9a47a4b20839c8a1fc7bbc4.PNG

The Miller distribution endeavour lasted from May 1960 to August 1961. The initial copies had 9d printed prices as well as the additional Miller indicia wording so are 'price variants' (I think your 6B is actually a 6D stamp if you look closely). The remaining copies from September 1960 are all priced at 10c but with the Miller indicia making them 'indicia variants'. The US 10c copies do not have the wording.

I've shared some e-mails with Jon McClure, a published comic historian, and believe that he will recognise these variants in his market report in the latest Overstreet. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive to see if it's in there. He kindly referred me to Overstreet as an adviser and I will be hopefully be going down that route soon. I'm hoping I may be able to put together either a market report outlining all my pence research or perhaps a full article. We shall see :wishluck:
