how long until Marvel starts selling exclusive Signature Series covers.  Why pass all that revenue to third and fourth party vendors.

Charge $50, split it with the artist and limit it to preorders.

I'm so so glad I'm off the bus.

I was thinking the same thing. I am surprised no one has cut the middle man out up till now.

They could just have the artist/writer just personalize the book as that seems to take away some resell value.

I know hobbyists don't like to talk about this but ultimately, everyone is just trying to make a living.  Artists, con promoters, handlers, sig series employees. They're just all trying to make an honest buck.

They can just adjust allowable numbers, charges or logistics to tailor to the market.

Honor can be satisfied (as they say in England) without off a huge portion of the fan base.

A very judgemental attitude and broad projection about fans who care about comics and those who are only in it for the money from a company, a group of people, who are only in it themselves for the money.  Or, would Marvel consider my own statement to be too judgemental and broad in itself and, hypocritically, take offense at it?

The self implosion of Marvel continues...

It's dreadful. A company whose content used to be all about the human condition (and what made them great) now has no clue.

Something like this can backfire so badly if it goes viral and they have no idea

Remember when comic books were about having fun?

Do you remember the awe of getting a signature by your favorite celebrity?

It's not up to the management of the celebrity to define whether you're a fan or not.

"Excuse me sir-it's been determined that you are not a true fan and the Marvel execs here have asked that we escort you out"

Where will Marvel eventually draw the line?

’Sir, you have been seen purchasing an additional variant copy of that book with a different cover.  This is quite unnecessary and excessive because both items otherwise contain the same material, and so clearly you are not a dedicated reader of Marvel comics who deeply respects and loves our characters and stories and have only purchased that variant for its potential secondary market resale value - something that, even though we ourselves covet the money, we secretly, quietly despise.  Please leave.’

Hello sir we see that you are collecting comics in the way you see fit.  That is completely unacceptable to us and a slap in the face to everyone.  we ask that you immediately escort yourself away from the hobby.

I was with a facilitator and a witness and they were able to get 10 books signed no problem, all window bagged on Saturday.

Someone three people behind us asked the Marvel Rep "Hey are you guys going to have a witness come for this signing? I want my books CGCed" the Marvel rep said no - but someone behind him in line had a witness and it all worked out. This was the X-Men Gold signing on Saturday.

Is it possible that the Marvel rep that pulled the stunt in the article in fact wasn't a Marvel rep?

I wouldn't put it beneath someone to play that sort of prank.

Until someone starts getting them personalized to Neal Adams or My good friend, Stan Lee

They can limit sigs, but then some guy will get 10 of his friends to stand in line with him - same thing happens when you see books limited to one or two per person, somoene always seems to have 10 or more copies for sale. :eyeroll:

Remember when Amanda Conner did a free sketch for someone and she found out it was being sold on eBay?  Yep, no more free sketches for the fans thanks to some greedy tool bag who probably gushed what a fan they were and had the book on eBay fifteen minutes later...
