Right, that's totally inappropriate for an 18+ chatboard of supposed adults.

(where the heck is that eyeroll emote?)

I thought the minimum age for these boards was younger than 18...

Threads like this are very useful in determining the type of people we are dealing with on these boards,

On a comic book chat board we certainly DO NOT need inappropriate borderline smut being shoved in our face but reading through this thread you will find those that not only have no problem with it , but are critical of the fact that it was even brought up

Not everyone sees the same ads. Most will see different ads due to Google's ad algorithm based on location and keyword searches.

I agree. It's very inappropriate for CGC graded comic books to be advertised on a comic book message board hosted by CGC.

hm Wait a minute...

Google ads absolutely attempt to do targeted displays, but that doesn't exactly mean anyone that sees the ads in question must have been off looking for internet porn - the algorithms are very complicated, and the people purchasing the ads can be quite clever.

For those of you that find that you're seeing these ads and you'd rather not, you can get rid of them - I personally use a browser extension called uBlock Origin to filter such things.

No, it means you were probably searching for books similar to those displayed.

When I came into this thread I was looking up the Venom #150 Unknown Comics variant. It is an homage cover to ASM #316. You know what was displayed in my ebay ad? ASM #316.

Which ads do you see?

Paging through them using the arrows I see the same Greg Horn junk and some Metallica book and a Horizon slab.  All CGC slabs but absolutely nothing I've ever shown even the slightest inkling towards searching for, looking at, or wanting.

Aside from being CGC slabs, the algorithm missed the mark pretty dramatically if it's targeted.

The only declarative statement I made is that it isn't a certainty that people were looking for similar 'adult' content was suggested by an earlier response, not real sure what you are 'no'ing me about.

But yes, there generally is some relationship to what ads you see and the internet history of the computer you're on.

Google also allows something called managed placement - this means people running the ad may be targeting this site.

No to the fact that because they got results from GFT that they were looking up porn. Could have just been searching Zenescope stuff.

I think we are in agreement then.

I'm a big proponent of people blocking ads, especially large eye sore ads like the CGC ads on this new site layout.

Next thing we'll hear is that it's the advertiser's right to free speech . . . meh

I have to imagine a good percentage of boardies had never seen the ads that you're complaining about due to widespread use of blockers... well, until you posted that image anyway :whatthe:

I see the Greg Horn book, a Grimm fairytales, Horizon, Metallica, X-23 and a Hughes Betty and Veronica.

From my search history the last two are pretty spot on, the first four we both are seeing, but don't jive with what we've searched for.
