Nick. Fury.

Nuff. Said.

That wasn't Hollywood, Marvel made that change, and LOL at pointing to 1 role as proof that whitewashing exists vs the multitude of roles where black/asian/hispanic/etc washing has happened. SMH

There isn't a single example bigger than Nick Fury.

"Oh, no, a fourth-tier character created pre-1970 as white is being acted by someone the klan wouldn't want! Travesty!"

LOL! Right?!?

My last post on this topic, but since you called out the "one example"...a few other examples include:

  • Morgan Freeman as Red in Shawshank Redemption (not Marvel)
  • Idris Alba as Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower (again, not Marvel)
  • Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four (really?)
  • Laurence Fishburne as Perry White in Superman MOS
  • Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent in Batman
  • Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor
  • Jimmy Olsen in Supergirl TV show
  • Halle Berry as Catwoman
  • Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil
  • Jamie Foxx as Electro in ASM2
  • Chiewetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange
  • Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West in The Flash
  • Anna Diop as Starfire in Teen Titans
  • ANNIE
  • Domino in Deadpool 2
  • Valkryie in Thor Ragnorak
  • Etc., etc. etc.....

Yeh, it's a thing and it's more prevalent than 'white-washing' these days...this isn't the 1950's anymore. I don't have a problem with alot of these actors/actresses...who doesn't love Idris and Morgan, but to completely ignore the fact that this isn't a thing in hollywood now, and in our society for that matter, is being selectively and intentionally obtuse.

Lobster Johnson is going to appear in Hellboy.

Heck yes! :whee:

Quote

The upcoming Hellboy reboot will focus on the story of the Blood Queen, which was told over the course of three miniseries (Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and Fury), written by Mignola and illustrated by Duncan Fegredo. In the story, the Blood Queen (being played in the film by Milla Jovovich) raises an army of demonic fairies to attack the mortal world.

$16M opening?? :p

Hellboy (2004) opening weekend: $23,172,440

Hellboy II (2008) opening weekend: $34,539,115

I am keeping an eye on that. I am hoping Hellboy does big box office to prove that non-Marvel/DC heroes can succeed at the box office. If Hellboy does well maybe this would get the new Spawn movie done quicker.

With some of these recent TV spots, the R-Rated trailer and the hints to a larger universe there is a stronger possibility at the box office. :wishluck:
