Frank Miller's Sin City Getting A TV Reboot

Frank Miller has made quite the impact in the world of comics, and he's looking to take over TV next. Sin City, one of Miller's most popular comic series', is being adapted for television.

 

According to Deadline, TWC/Dimension is developing the TV version of the comics, which were previously made into two separate feature films. The second movie, A Dame To Kill For, was released in 2013.

 

Glen Mazzara, of The Walking Dead fame, will act as showrunner. His former projects also include The Shield and horror series The Omen. Len Wiseman, who helmed Underworld and worked on shows like Sleepy Hollow and Lucifer, will direct Sin City.

The other producers will include Stephen L'Heureux, Frank Miller, and Bob & Harvey Weinstein.

 

The report states that no network has jumped on the project yet. However, there are quite a few that are beginning to circle Sin City. When you think about the subject matter, it would seem likely that a premium channel or subscription service would be the best fit.

Agree.  I'm surprised that Rodriguez isn't already involved.  He's the reason the movies worked.  Guy is a genius.  They could put it on El Rey TV (his network).

fond of rourke as marv.  i haven't read the comics, but it felt like they were leaving a little opening for him not being totally dead there.  but he has lost like 100 pounds since then, not sure if he can play marv anymore.

What is the Sin City TV series release date?

There is currently no set release date for the "Sin City" TV series. The show has experienced a number of behind-the-scenes shakeups over the course of the last few years as the rights have changed hands and different creatives have come and gone from the project. That, plus the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, has seemingly sent the "Sin City" series to something approximating development hell and prevented it from making meaningful traction.

 

Another issue that has prevented "Sin City" from gaining enough traction to get a release date is the legal turmoil happening behind the scenes. In August 2020, Deadline reported that Frank Miller was being sued by producer Stephen L'Heureux over the rights to the series, as well as the rights to a film adaptation of "Hard Boiled." L'Heureux had previously collaborated with Miller and Robert Rodriguez on "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," and was part of the original creative team brought on board for the series when it was first announced in 2017. As such, all of these issues have substantially slowed down the "Sin City" TV show, preventing the announcement of a set premiere date.

 

 

With all of that said, later rumors have suggested Miller and Rodriguez will be more involved than previously assumed. If both of them return to the "Sin City" world, it could indicate that the series will share more connective tissue with the films than originally planned and could bring back characters like Dwight (Clive Owen and Josh Brolin) or Marv (Mickey Rourke). However, at this time it remains unclear if that will actually happen.

Despite the cool visuals of the films, they messed up the continuity. Sin City would be better served as a series with each season hitting one storyline. They could even add the one-shots as bonus episodes. But they will never top Mickey Rourke in casting. That was perfection.
